he St. Cloud Tourney is tougher then most would expect.
The Black division appears to favor Apple Valley. The Eagles are coming off a rough two weeks in D6 after taking second in the toughest tourney, the Bloomington Tourney. They are coming off a 5-3 win over Minnetonka after losing to Edina 5-2 and Eden Prairie 2-0. They will not have an easy time in this pool. The Grand Forks Sugarkings can be formable. The Sugarkings played in the Bemidji Tourney and placed second in their pool, beating Warroad 3-1, Virginia 4-3 and tying Keweenaw (Michigan) 2-2. In bracket play, they lost to Superior 2-1 in ot and beat Marquette 5-2. They are used to this tourney format and should give Apple Valley competition. Note that the Apple Valley/Grand Forks game will be the second game on Saturday. North Metro is struggling in D3, but can be dangerous. A week ago they pushed Maple Grove, losing 5-2. Alexander has struggled also in D15, losing last Sunday to Moorhead 7-2.
The Blue Division matches three tough teams and a sleeper. Fargo is the favorite because they got a good Saturday draw and will be playing Tonka after they have played a tough game with Jefferson in the morning. Bloomington Jefferson and Minnetonka continue their D6 rivalry in St. Cloud. They will play each other on Thursday before the tourney in a key D6 game for seeding. Tonka has played well in D6 and hold victories over Chaska 6-0 and Edina 6-1 in January. Jefferson has been playing a tough D6 and scrimmage schedule. In the past month, they have played Eagan (twice), Apple Valley (twice), Lakeville South, and Grand Rapids. The Fargo Flyers were runner-up in the Moorhead Tourney in early December, beating Stillwater 2-1, Champlin Park 3-2, Grand Forks Wheatkings 7-2, before losing to Grand Rapids 3-2. Flyers then played in Edina Tourney at the end of December. They tied Duluth East 2-2, tied Rochester Red 1-1 and lost to Edina 3-0. Sartell may look a little lonely in this pool, but they have been making a run in D5 lately and have been proven in the past to field a tough team. They could surprise someone in this pool.
The Red pool favorite is Maple Grove. They are tied with Wayzata for the D3 title and are coming off a winning weekend where they won the Hastings Big Chill Tourney. They beat the 96 Fire, Cottage Grove and Hastings (2-1 in the Championship game). Burnsville may have hit the wall losing two key games the past week in D6 (Chaska 3-2 and Edina 3-1). This tourney may be a chance for them to turn it around especially since they play Maple Grove in the third game of pool play. But Mpls Park has shown improvement and has strung some wins together including a 5-4 win over Hopkins last week. Moorhead has been struggling and has lost a number of key games and fallen into third or fourth in D15. But they still hold a mid-December 3-2 win over Apple Valley.
St. Cloud is taking time off of their chase for the D10 title and the guaranteed Regional Tourney seed that comes with it. They should take the Green Division. Rogers is down this year and will really have to put it together to make the D10 playoffs. Bemidji, after a good season last year, is down and will likely not make it out of D16. Only Hopkins can threaten St. Cloud and they have been struggling in D3 also.
Teams in the Monday Championship round should be Apple Valley, Fargo (but this a close one, it could easily be Jefferson or Tonka), Maple Grove and St. Cloud.
Teams in the Monday Consolation round should be Grand Forks, Jefferson or Tonka (or Fargo), Burnsville, and Hopkins.

Burnsville going for the Hat Trick in Trophys. They won owatonna tourney & beat Lakeville South to win their own Tournament. Goalie is good and team is hard to score on.
AppleValley is due to take home 1st place.
They won 2nd in Bloomington tourney.
I see a 2-1 game coming. I saw Applevalley beat them 2-0 earlier this year. Burnsville is a Better team now and I think they get some revenge.

That is quite the scoring system at St. Cloud.
Is there any other rinks that are using that?
Here is a link to their website with all the results.

The entire Tournament was the best I've ever been to. The scoring system was cool too. I hope to be back in the future.
Ony one problem, I should have known NOT to use Yahoo Maps. I got lost more than once, luckily our hockey player kept a cool head, and we all got to the arena's on time.
