Hey falcons, being such a fan of Alex I am surprised you left Williams off the list. Just goes to show the solid senior class Alex has this year though...

For 2009:

Sally Komarek
Becky Kortum
Callie Dahl

Erika Wheelhouse
Kelsey Romatoski

Jessica Havel

Feste isn't even the best forward on her team. #29 and Green are better.

Agreed, I have her in my previous top ten. It is hard to see how really good she is, surrounded by all that talent.

It is like I hear how the top 3 forwards at EP, are the greatest in the state. If that is true, I would expect to see greater than great things. I do not see that. It is the old synergy equation. 1+1+1= 3 on good players. 1+1+1= 6 with great players.

Nice mention of Miss Zrust in today's Pioneer Press:

LAUREN ZRUST
Pioneer Press
Article Last Updated: 12/31/2007 11:26:39 PM CST
School: Blaine
Sport: Girls hockey
Year: Junior

Was a key factor in Blaine reaching the final of the Edina Holiday tournament. The productive forward had six goals and three assists in the tournament, getting a hat trick against Edina in the quarterfinals. Scored Blaine's only goal in a 4-1 loss to Grand Rapids/Greenway in the title game. Was in on 11 of the 13 goals Blaine scored last week. Has 29 points (19 goals, 10 assists) this season.

Abby Williams was named the Central Lakes Conference Performer of the last week in Girls Hockey for surpassing 300 career points. Congratulations Abby!!

Zrust has always been a star player but she made some eye-popping plays in this tournament and really carried her team. In the title game vs. GRG she was electrifying, splitting the D more than a few times. She definitely left the weekend on the radar of more colleges.

IMO Samantha (Sam) Downey of Silver Bay, gets no press or publicity, easily at the level of the girls listed above. Power, Speed, and a great Team Player.

She is pretty good, but not quite as good as the girls listed.

I would definitely have to disagree, boblee. Of the 3 forwards listed, she has the least helpful supporting cast. Arola and Lundquist play have decent linemates that can at least make plays. Zrust on the other hand is often forced to carry the puck end to end because of the poor help she receives. Very underrated player...

As good as Lundquist and Arola may have as far as talent around them...yes, but valid for argument, no.

Arola plays with Mol. Illikainen and Marina Guyer. Guyer has no goals this year and as good as Molly I is, she is in 8th grade.

Lundquist also has a freshman on her line.

Both girls would be fantastic no matter where you put them.

what about welch?

Arent we forgetting Danielle Welch From Hastings?

Boblee:

Guyer may not have a goal, but her assists total 10. She can obviously dish the puck. As for Illikainen, age does not seem to be a factor as she is a very complete player and is tied for fourth on the team in points behind Erickson, Gallop, and Arola.

Lundquist's line mates do not matter for the most part because Vichorek is on the ice nearly the whole game and is the one who feeds her the rink wide pass that sends her in all alone at least once a game.

This is not a bash on a fiesty, hard-working Blaine team, but Zrust does A LOT for her team.

All three are top players in the state and key on their team, but this is why Zrust is underrated...

I agree that she is underrated, but I have her in my top 3 forwards for her class. I guess I'm not sure what you are getting at.

If they are that good why could they not score more against a below average Kennedy team? EP could not even score on a 5 on 3 for 1:40 against Kennedy and yet they are the top team in the state. Give the Kennedy goalie credit for that in a 30 save second period. Roseville and Stilwater are better and will be more succesful as they play as a team. EP will get beat again. They were very frustrated in the game against Kennedy.

Yes, we are forgetting Danielle Welch from Hastings. She's as good as it gets for senior forwards. Hastings is sort of a forgotten team (although they tied Stillwater yesterday) but hopefully nobody forgets about Welch. Opposing coaches certainly don't--I've heard she's been drawing not one but two 'shadows' against some teams.
Another big conference game on Tuesday vs. Roseville.

Defense dad, for one E.P. is not the top ranked team in the state! For two you sound like you still have not gotten over the 3 Kennedy kids that tranfered to E.P. GIVE IT UP AND MOVE ON!!! And three you should be on this forum talking about how well your goalie played!! She was FANTASTIC! No wonder these 3 kids left Kennedy they must know you?

serious question. how much "home grown" talent does EP have or how much of their core was lured by the thrill of being an eagle

I think it is a shame for kids to bail on a program that invested so much time developing them, obviously there are legit reasons, but it has to be tough.
