How do you letter in varsity hockey?

If you see any significant amount of varsity playing time you should letter.

I think the rule says something like you have to dress for at least 50% of the varsity games and practice over 90% (im not positive on that though). But usually its really up to a coach. He can decide whether or not to give a kid a letter.

I don't think there is any such rule. It's completely the choice of the coach/school.

Ok I didnt know I know I have heard that before though so maybe it was just the rule where I play?

That could be it but I know where I played everyone who saw a varsity shift got a letter.

It's completely up to the Varsity coach to decide who letters. The only requirement I believe there is, is that the player has to have dressed at least one Varsity game.

The letter rule is usually spelled out in your team rules. For example for a school I am familiar with it is: Be on the varsity roster for at least 50 % of the games or any player on the varsity roster for the section or state tournament games.

on our team ( for a goalie to letter ) he has to start 2/3 of so many games.

Its all up to the school/coaches but most programs have some sort of guidelines they follow as to how to aproach lettering. Most programs as previously stated before my response require around a 50/90 playtime to practice ratio to earn a major letter. All you have to do to minor letter is pretty much be on the varsity team,
