What do you think Grand Forks Red River's chances would be to win a state title if they were across the Red River and played in Minnesota?

So far they have played Warroad who they beat 7-3, EGF who they beat 6-2, and they will play Bloomington Jeffersonon the 21st of Dec. and if they beat them they will most likely play Roseau, and they play Roseau on the 15th of Jan.

They won't lose a game to a ND team.

I am not sure, but I know the Fargo South team that won the Kiwanis tourney a couple of years ago was a darn good team - not as good as Minnesota's top 5-10 teams, but probably would have been a solid top 20 team.

This year RR is really deep they have the top two defenseman in ND, Jarrett Galbreath and Ryan LaDouceur. LaDouceur was second among defenseman in points for the Elite League this fall behind Gleason. They have three solid lines that could compete with any team in the state of Minnesota, Eric Meland leads the way for the forwards, and the the have a hell of a goalie in Pat Arnason.

So when red river faces off versus Jefferson later in the year....what would you predict the outcome of that game would be??? How do you think they RR would far againest one of our top teams like Edina???

I don't know much about Jefferson, I hear they have an excellent forward in O'Donnell but I really don't think they will be able to beat RR. I have watched Edina play and I honestly think that RR would give them a run for their money. We will just have to wait and see on December 21st at the Ralph. I hope Jefferson comes ready to play because this is not just another crappy ND hockey team.

Why don't you tell us since you're the only one who seems to know anything about them.

They play Roseau on January 15th is that a high enough ranked team for you goldenhockey? Like I said in the Warroad - RR thread they had 6 players in the Elite league this fall and gave Roseau all they could handle according to Coach Oliver in a 50 minute scrimmage losing 1 - 0. They are fast and very good an EASY top 10 team; if not 5 if they were across the Red River this season.
Goofy Gofer...there have been many years where the ND Champion could beat the MN Champ and this may be one of them.

Sure it is...i guess all this will be solved later in the year for us since they play these teams in real games.....50 minute scrimmages againist another team really in the end don't mean anything because it's not a real game that matters so the intensity wouldn't be as high and it's also a time to work on things

Scrimmage or not which I realize means absolutely SQUAT...the point was Ollie was VERY impressed.

By the way, I'm not an RR fan just a hockey fan and these guys are the real deal.

So what if it was a scrimmage RR rolled four lines im sure Roseau did too. Just because it is a scrimmage it doesn't mean that the players aren't going to try.

It was a SCRIMMAGE...a practice game that counts for NOTHING...nuff said. The point I was trying to make was the Rams coach was impressed. SiouxYAYA ease up....your starting to sound like a PR fan instead of a RR fan.

RR would be the #1 seed in 8A which means they'd have a good shot to get to state. Once there, they'd be a real factor.
RR would be at worst a #3 seed in 8AA. Get by Roseau and they'd be right in the mix for the big Trophy.

I dont think they will beat Roseau. It should be a good game but i will take the number 1 minnesota team over the number 1 ND team any day of the week.

And that's the problem...
Is that just this year or every year as the number #1 ND team HAS beaten the #1 MN team in the past...MAYBE Ram Hockey can help me out but wasn't one of the few losses the 1990 State Title team had was to RR who won the ND title that same year.

RR probably has a better chance than anyone on Roseau's regular season schedule to knock off the Rams this season.

RR as well as Central has had their share of victories over the Section 8 Champions throughout the years.

It is extremely possible that they lose to Fargo South or Grafton on a given night. Also, You never know what GF Central could do. Of course, they shouldn't lose any of those games, but that's why they play.

Yeah I'd pick the MN team over the ND team any day.

Red River sounds like a very strong team. I'm curious how they'll do against Jefferson. Is the game in Mpls or GF?

I would consider it an upset if Jefferson beat RR. Not an upset if RR beat Roseau or any top rated team in MN. Through the years the Grand Forks high schools have had strong teams. Game is at the Ralph, I believe. GF Herald tournament.
RED RIVER???

What you North D@kotans are not understanding is that the state of Minnesota has about 50 times the amount of hockey programs that ND does. So Red Rivers chances? About the same as any mediocre team in Minnesota. SLIM TO NONE!

That is one of the most narrow minded, dumb @ss quotes I've seen. No wonder you are a fourth liner, you maybe the best one but still a fourth liner none the less.

By the way; other than the SiouxYAYA guy who is probably from ND the rest of us are from Minnesota and we think they have a good chance.

Roseau lost two games that year, one to RR and I am pretty sure the other was to Grand Rapids a few weeks before the state tourney.
