Congratulations to Jordan Schroeder for making the U.S. U20 team that will compete in the World Junior Championships. Making that team as a 17 year old is very impressive. Hopefully John Tavares will make Team Canada(they have not had their camp yet) and we can see those two go at it.

That's very impressive. I'd like to see him play.

I saw him play at SCSU a few weeks ago. Final score was 2-2 with Jordan having two goals. He is currently the points leader, assists leader and 2nd in the team in goals on the U18 team.

I think the U18 team is playing UMD at the DECC this weekend if you wanna check Schroeder out

UMD on Friday and UW-Superior on Saturday.

Very talented complete player. Only knock would be his size. However, size doesn't seem to bother him or hinder his success.

He reminds me of Zach Parise

I don't think he is as tough as Parise or as physical. He plays a very smart game and is very fast. I think he is more of a St. Louis, Kane, Datsyuk or Marc Savard. Of former Minnesot players I would say Marty Sertich, Chad Rau, Chris VandeVelde or T.J. Oshie.

I see him as more of a Jay Barribal player only stronger, and even more skilled. Sertich sounded like a good comparison

i agree he is a very complete player and very fun to watch but i am unsure if i would compare him to Oshie or Vandevelde just yet

A little confused by the article and how the different teams post-high school work. The article said he's on an accelerated program to graduate high school in three years. He's currently a junior, which would mean he graduates in June. Would he then hypothetically play for the Gophers next fall?

Or what other teams/opportunities are there? The article mentioned the U20 team, is that a team just like the U18 he's on now? Could he play on that for a couple years before going to the Gophers? Or how does this kinda thing usually work?

His plan seems to be to play at the "U" next season. If for some reason he isn't able to pull off all of that school work his two most likely options would be a year in the USHL or another year in Ann Arbor as a overage player. He could play in most of their games, but not in any of the age specific international tournaments they play in during the year. A few players in the past have done this.

There is no year long U-20 team. This is the team that will play in th World Junior Tournament later this month. That's the only time they play.

The U-18 NTDP team played UMD on Friday and UWS on Saturday. Anyone know the scores? How did Jordan do?

USA - 2 UMD - 1

USA - 7 UWS - 3

I watched the UWS game and thought he looked very good. Great speed, great hands, and great decision maker.

He could still play at NTDP due to the fact he is a 1990 birth year. Funny he and Ness are doing the same thing and trying to get to the UofM early.

Schroeder's playing against college competition this year and doing just fine, so he'd be ready to go. But as the head coach of a college program, would you prefer to have a kid his age get another year of experience before coming to the program?

From everything that I have heard, right now, it seems that he is in better shape than Ness and the gophers expect him next year and are worried about Ness.

Schroeder had already made up the necessary extra work to be considered a senior by the start of the school year. Ness is trying to do two years in one which is obviously a more difficult task. But "worried"? I don't think so.

I guess I am worried about Ness too. Only averaging 3 points per game and playing very good D. What is wrong; he should be averaging at least 5 points per game???? I hear he played pretty lousy in the Midget invite tourney this fall. His team won and an article said he quarterbacked the team. Oh, yeah Shatuck took third in that tourney. That I am sure worries Lucia alot.

I didn't mean the Gophers were worried about him as a player, they are worried about the unknown situation regarding his credits. They think he will get them, but they are not sure and Ness is such a great player, not having him next year would really hurt the Gophers, they need him to bolster a blueline which is just average compared to most of Lucia's previous defensemen. I am sure that Lucia would love to have him and he is a great player. Sorry for the confusing post.

A) They are not "worried". Of course they aren't "sure" because there is still a half a school year left. But saying they are "worried" is misrepresenting things.

B) They would have eight defensemen no matter what. Including three guys who are very capable of running a PP unit in Fairchild, Fischer, and Lofquist. Obviously Ness would be another boost but they won't exactly be hurting either way.

2. I'm not sold on Fischer running the power play and have heard good things about Lofquist but never seen him play, and I still would rather have Ness running the powerplay than one of them.
