what school loses the most talent to private schools?

Well within the last couple of years, in my opinion Orono was hit pretty hard by losing:
Taylor Matson- AHA-committed to UofM (Des Moines) I think
Adam Estoclet-BSM-Dartmouth
There are multiple schools that lose alot of good talent, Orono is probly the most recent that I know of.

Please let me know of more schools.

im gonna say woodbury. there were 14 players playing in the 2006 state tournament (not last year, 2 years ago) that live in woodbury. woodbury HS did not play in the state tournament that year. notable recent players include tyler zepeda at hill, dan cecka at hill, dom pitera at CDH, mike bangs at cdh, and ben hause at cdh. nick pryor is another one who lived in woodbury but went to hill, but he plays in ann arbor now for the national team

No question Edina. This is hands down. Maybe not this year, but 2 years ago? Someone compiled a list and something around 25 kids that could have been playing Edina Varsity were playing Juniors, Private Schools, or accelerated to college

Cottage Grove has;

7 @ Hill = Sova, Hill, Meier, Pulanco, Holler and P Johnson who has quit hockey(he might have graduated last year thou) younger Sova will be here also.

3 @ CDH = McClelland, Deflorin and Weyandt (left after peewees)

2 @ STA = Jirele brothers 9th grade jv goalie(soild for bantams last year) and older brother who has quit

3 @ St Bernard's = Hoke brothers and Fornier

Also 3 @ WBL = Putney and Hauswirth bros played up to Bantams then moved.

Peter johnson cant play hockey after his concussion from last year

so should I change it to "had to quit?"

Minnetonka and Orono seem to have a lot of rich people who opt for private schools.

Chaska is losing kids like crazy.

I think it depends on the year.

the city of lakeville lost alot
schroeder, mergens, crandall, the entire 9th grade class from lakeville south...people would have stayed if the schools didnt split

Henry Sibley has lots that go to Cretin or St Thomas.


One thing that needs to be remembered is that it's not "losing" the players if they were always private school kids. Lots of kids who are listed went to private schools all their life. They would have done that regardless of where they lived.

gee whiz, who would have thought of this

You're from Hill Murray, why would you argue with me? There are lots of big names mentioned who were never a part of the public school system. Just because they reside in that area doesn't mean you get claim to them.

im not arguing it, im sayin that people always forget this fact and just assume all kids go to public elementary and middle school.

1. There's that, which people can't just assume. If you're going to send your kids to a private school you can live wherever you want.
2. It also happens with public schools. If you live in the Kennedy district, you'll try to OE early to Jefferson to be on a better team, for example. Well, for some with Woodbury, Sibley, Cottage Grove, etc (none of those are hockey powers) so if you live near them, you'll just choose to go somewhere else for hockey.

Hopefully Jay Moser can take the CG program in a differant direction than the former coach and get the association players to stay in the community.

Besides, W.B.L. is a public school.

There's a difference between moving and transferring.

champlin and broklyn park lose a lot of kids to totino, breck, blake, etc.

I think you can only use the word "transfer" if they switched AFTER they first attended the public high school.

Maybe the initial question should have been written like this:

How many youth associations which are feeder programs (but can't say that they are feeder programs) had kids (which they don't own, but think they own) go to schools other than the local high school?

I don't know what the solution is other than to start a new youth association and call it "The anyone who is considering attending a private school must play here Youth Hockey Association" If they did this, then there would be complaints from the neighboring youth associations that this team would be stacked. And where would you start......at mini mites? It sure sounds silly and besides....think of all the opportunities which have opened up to other kids because this small group chooses to attend a different school.

Mounds View, not neccessarily this year but the previous years have lost players to Hill, Cretin, TG, and Roseville. Their biggest lost just came when they lost Ryan Wolter to White Bear.

Everyone would be happy if the privates would go back to the independent state championship pre '75 then they can "stack" all they want. There would be no complaints of who owns what kid from what feeder school. Hill could claim all the central catholic conference championships they can handle
It might keep more kids at home however which also keeps the public school

The solutions to life's problems are not to simply eliminate, remove or complain about things we don't like. Let's just all agree to disagree and focus on being thankful that our differences don't prevent us from enjoying another great season of high school hockey!
