U10 OR JULY 1998 YOUTH PROGRAM for Girls (not camps)
My daughter is in her 3rd season right now. Can anyone recommend an offseason program for her other then camps? Camps just seem to be run them through (which is good) then done. It just seems like there's nothing out there for a 1998 U10. Not a fan of Showcase AAA. She needs coaching. A very good skater but average player (I.P.A.S.A.W.A.). Never really been coached and is missing out as a result! We do our best but I not having played hockey can only do that "my best". She loves hockey and wants more all the time...her past coaches certification has been revoked for many reasons. That's 2 seasons wasted other then the kids being self taught for the most part. Serious replies appreciated. Thank you!

Girls Development for U10 and below
If you don't have a strong girls program in your own Association, and she really, really likes the game, my advice would be to stick her in with the boys. Even B level boys will be better for her development than A level girls, if you don't have enough of them.
But unlike boys, there don't seem to be as many devlopment programs for younger girls. (Hint to entrepreneural hockey types: Girls Hockey parents spend money too). We put our daughter into a couple of camps, including Minnesota Made, which has done some great things for boys. Can't say I'd recommend the girls camp at Minnesota Made. Most boys coaches don't seem to "get" girls. You can't yell at most U10 and under girls, they don't respond.
We have been lucky to get into a MASH Spring and Fall league where the coaches take the extra time to practice and develop the girls. If your association doesn't take the girls seriously yet (they will eventually) or if you can't put enough good ones together, I would recommend hooking up with a boys MASH team with a coach who is willing to run extra practices.
Our daughter is in second year of U10s, and I wish I had put her in with the boys hin her 3rd year of Mites, she might be further along. Who knows - half the draw for her has been the social aspect of the sport, maybe she wouldn't have had as much fun with boys...
