Kinda a fun tourney as the Turkey Trot line up looks like this:
Maple Grove vs Edina
Buffalo vs Wayzata
Local Cable channel will broadcast games and Wayzata does a nice job hosting. Wonder if anyone can knock off Edina early???

That channel is a very overlooked one, especially with the fact that they're online 24/7. They do quite a few sporting events during the winter - although not as much hockey as I (we) would like. But they do get a few MG, Armstrong and Wayzata games on.

No, but I am going to Maple Grove's first game... I'll let you know how they do against whoever the hell they're playing.

No one has talked much about Maple Grove's chances against Edina? Edina appears poised to make a run at state championship but no one has mentioned anything about MG? Are they any good?
Also, who would be considered the favorite in the Wayzata vs Buffalo game? Does anyone have a chance to knockoff Edina this weekend?

Edina 6 MG 1
Wayzata 2 Buffalo 0
Only saw 1 period of the MG game, was fairly Uneventful.
Buffalo and Wayzata was pretty good, Ty Simcoe looked good in net for Wayzata. Granted, Buffalo only had one really good scoring oppertunity. Also hoping that the god awful passing by MG/Buffalo/Wayzata is all just early season jitters or something, or all three teams could be in trouble this year.

Of course I do CNT...are you interested??? LOL. Yes Buffalo was a tad nicked up but the 1st liners did play....however, Buffalo took 10 plus penalties to Wayzata 4 so they spent alot of time Killing penalties...One who would complain about officiating mighthave thought the penalty situation was a little tilted and the refs had ample opportunity to call a few trojan penalties but did not..
When the refs let em play....the game itself was pretty good...five on five their was no advantage for either side...Buffalo's 1st line forwards were slowed down as Buffalo defense had a hard time getting the puck and hitting them in stride out of the zone...only one time did they hit the line with speed. Bison defense struggled and offensively the Bison had some opportunities but could not cash in.
Physical game and both power plays were terrible..however Buffalo did create alot of opportnities in the second and third period. Shots were 29 to 26 Wayzata defense and the goalie for Wayzata did play well.

I saw the Edina / MG game. When I arrived it was 1 - 0 MG, then Edina started in. They got two real good goals and then two not so good goals. MG goalie let in a couple of slow rollers.
If you want to beat Edina, you are going to need to be fast. They are fast and fairly big. They are physical, but they have weaknesses....The goaltending is not the best I have seen. The goalie gives up a lot of rebounds right in front and they play such an aggressive fore-check that I feel they will get caught down deep in the zone. But, Edina is pretty good..... MG just did not have the speed to keep up with them the whole game.

Edina is extremely good. Maple Grove did not have the horses to keep up with Edina, plain and simple.

As I watched Edina I found myself thinking 'how is anyone going to beat these guys?' They have another gear and bring it out when they need it. Their forecheck is as agressive and their defense is solid. I know it is early but the Hornets looked like a extremely solid team top to bottom. MG on the other hand appears to be hodgepodge of kids...some kids are good players while others cannot keep up. It will be interesting to see Edina play Wayzata today and see if Wayzata will keep up.
The season is early and teams will be trying to find themselves all year long...however, Edina is a well oiled machine right now and have to be the odds on favorite to unseat Roseau as the 2008 state champion.

It sure seemed to me that Edina was versatile as well. It's clear that they were far better skaters than Maple Grove was, but then when Maple Grove tried to get physical with them toward the end of the 2nd and 3rd periods, Edina out shined them there as well and ran them over.
If they can do that against better teams, they could be very very dangerous.

watched the 1st period and thought Wayzata outplayed Edina even though Edina led 1-0...did Edina take over after that?

Edina scored 4 of their 5 goals on the power play. Wayzata's only goal was also a power play goal. Wayzata's power play needs some serious work, not being able to convert on a 5 on 3 really exposed the weakness.
Although Edina dictated the play, Wayzata had a very good game plan to try and bottle Edina up in their own end. Wayzata goalie Ty Simcoe played extremely well for the second night in a row. Edina will only get better as the season progresses, they will be very tough to beat.

It may be boring, but it's what they're going to have to do to get wins. They're not going to be able to light up the scoreboard with any regularity. They're going to have to play within their means.

It worked against Buffalo...and limited Edina 5 on 5 chances...difference in game was Edina PP vs Wayzata's...Wayzata had a chance early to be ahead in this one...
Not complaining but Buffalo had 12 penalties in first game and numerous questionable calls in second game..especially when Bison were applying pressure...seemed Refs did not like the Bison and certainly did not help Bison chances of pulling off a win or two as the spent 2nd and 3rd period vs Wayzata in Penalty box and most of the third period against MG in the sin bin. Additionally, Bison gained a Five on three versus Wayzata and held that advantage exactly 4 seconds...unreal make up call in that game.
Dissappointing start for Bison as they played well 5 on 5 only to be seated in the box on several ticky tacky calls.
