Lee, I don't know what happened in your past that caused you to hate Denfeld as badly as you do but I hope one day they return to the power they were in the late 80s and early 90s. I don't know why you say nothing against the Hunters because it's always been obvious you despise them.
Duluth East is the only team in Duluth that can handle the schedule they do and they are also the only AA team in Duluth. They are the best team. Now that Marshall can't recruit hopefully they will fall to the bottom of the totem poll in a few years. I would love to see that. That and a Denfeld win over East would be spectacular. Especially knowing Lee would cry himself to sleep that night.
KIDDING, Lee!

Dont underestimate Denfeld. If some of there young kids can successfully provide more depth, they will give anyone a very good game "on any given night"

Hate Denfeld? That's a little strong, don't you think? I can't say that I hate any school. Now if we're talking "dislike", well then....
This may surprise you, but I actually hope Denfeld wins one of their games against a Duluth opponent this season.
On a side note, with the Red Plan seemingly intact (thanks for losing your election, Harry! You did many of us a huge favor), the additional students coming to Denfeld in a few years will almost certainly turn them into a AA school. We'll be having some fun then, eh?
Strongly agree with you on the Marshall comment, but I don't see it happening. There are always ways around the rules, loopholes, legal challenges.
Cry to sleep? I don't recall crying the last time Denfeld beat East (last century, it was)....I remember sitting there at the DECC with my brother in stunned silence when it was over. But it was far from the worst I've ever felt after a Hound loss. In fact, that game wouldn't make the Top Ten In Pain.

Alright, alright. Well you have to admit you would toss and turn in your sleep a little more than usual.
If Denfeld does indeed take in all those extra students it will turn the hockey team into the same thing the Duluth Lakers are now at the Pee Wee and Bantam level. It will be a Denfeld-Central hockey team. Whether or not that's good, who knows at this point. I'm sure they'd be put in section 7AA and we all know how good that section is. It all comes down to youth hockey and the numbers in the western half of Duluth are declining year after year.
The only bright spot is the Duluth Laker Pee Wee A team last year - I believe they either won or finished second in that conference. Which does include Duluth East and Cloquet - two of the best in 7AA. So maybe, just maybe, they will compete for a few more years down the road yet. That same team had 11+ future Denfeld students and the rest are Marshall and Central students.

Im just curious why this question isnt settled the old fasion way. I dont understand why east would play central and even denfeld instead of marshall. That game would get so many spectators. I have heard Randolph doesnt want to weaken his schedule, but then why are they playing Central.

As is stated in another thread, Duluth East, Duluth Central, and Duluth Denfeld are all in the same school district and I believe the Greyhounds are more than likely required to play both teams each season.

Did the school board mandate this? If it were up to them, one team will be eliminated. Can't be the MSHSL.

Why would that be?
Is it to reduce travel cost?
Elk River and Rogers are in the same school district and in different Conf., different section, and for most of the time a different classification....they never played each other.
It's up to the AD with guidance from the coach to make the schedules.
If they wanted it to happen it would.

It seems like it is said that Duluth East doesn't want to include them in their schedule. What about Marshall? Have they actively tried to get East to play a game or are they just as passive about it. It seems that if Marshall really wanted to play good competition, then they would have plenty right in their own backyard instead of bringing say a class AA team from the cities. The arguement that East is looking to play better competition is better than the arguement that they are afraid of Marshall. I'm not saying that Marshall isn't good, but since East is a AA school, I can see their need to play more AA opponents to get ready for the post season. Personally, that is one game that I would pay to see.

I don't think it's as much of the school board mandating that they play each other as much as they are strongly encouraged to do it. Plus, with all three teams practicing and playing at the same arena it does hold some travel expenses down, although I don't think Duluth East really has a big problem with their travel budget.
I have also heard that some local coaches are more or less "black balling" Duluth Marshall because of their "alleged" recruiting practices. I have heard from at least one high school coach that he wouldn't schedule that team if not required to do so by sake of being in the same conference. I am NOT saying that this is the reason that Duluth East doesn't play Duluth Marshall and I have no reason to honestly say that Coach Randolph feels this same way...I really don't know, it's just another opinion that I have heard around the Duluth area.

Come on Lee, we all know that East has a kid from Eveleth on their squad. Was he recruited? Are you surprised someone wants to leave an Eveleth or Alexandria to play with their buddies for a better team? I mean come on, give it up. Duluth East won't play Marshall because they are scared they might lose, and if they win they won't see it as a big deal. Randolph could at least give his ALMA MATER a little credit. I think they both could do something great by renting the DECC and having a game with proceeds that go to charity or something. You know the DECC would be pretty much packed. Come on Randolph, think about it.

Question to anyone who criticizes private schools, or even public schools who "recruit" their players? Do these schools actually contact players and tell them to come to their school and they give them "incentives" to come to their school?
....or....
Is it common for more talented players to say, "hey, (school) has a very good hockey program, I'd like to play there instead of where I'm at now. " and then transfer because they would rather be on a better team?
---- The second option doesn't really seem like "recruiting", it just seems like a kid who wants to try and play for a good team and maybe even go to a State Tournament in one of their years.

Learn to spell. Or are you a byproduct of the superior Marshall educational system?

Have you contacted Mike to voice your idea? Or would you just prefer to stay anonymous on a message board (even though, by your email address, it's clear who you are to me and Mitch).
Put some action behind your words.

What you said is exactly the point, but you'd never get the Marshallholics to see that. I quit wasting my time on them because, well...it's a waste of my time.
In other words, to quote my response when somebody asked me last year "so, what do you think of Marshall this year?" I simply said, "I don't". They're inconsequential. Sorry bout that.

There is simply no tangible benefit for East if they play Marshall. The schedule is full enough already.
As to which team is better, it doesn't really matter, since they are in different levels and will never play. The only measuring stick we have is how much they beat up on the other Duluth schools, and that's not very accurate.
Though Denfeld is certainly improving, they still lost 8-1 to East last year and don't merit any consideration in this poll yet.
