Cleaning hockey gear - please don't laugh at me

Okay, I need to know if there is any validity to this.
We have a pool and my wife wants to take my gear and my son's and soak it in the water and let it sun dry. She says that some hockey moms told her the chlorine kills the odor-causing bacteria.
Anyone hear this? Should I let her do it?

Most of us do not have pools up this way. Hot Tubs more so - never thought about it. Chlorine is a cleansing agent. Without a thorough rinsing you might have skin irritation

I say go ahead and do it. I have heard it works. If it doesn't, try it out on your wife, it was her idea!!

Thanks for your concern. I think we'll be alright. The chlorine content of a home pool isn't like a public pool, plus ours is saltwater. There is a cell that generates chlorine daily from the NaCl in the water. We actually pour a bag of salt in periodically like you would to a water softener.
I'll let you know if I get a rash! My son and I should be safe from what I'm hearing.
Before we did it I wanted to make sure it actually killed the odor (if it didn't there's no point) and doesn't ruin pads.

Why not just put it in the washing machine? My old trainer use to do that every 2 weeks to a month. It kept the equiptment soft and fresh.

It’s obvious your pool is not freezing over Clown, so you will be able to place in the sun and not have the sweat freeze also This will do the trick.
Then place in the washing machine and air dry as needed.
