Bernie McBain is a former cab driver, yes that's right, a former cab driver with absolutely zero hockey background. This gentleman has been pulling the wool over many eyes for far too long now. His claim to fame is the development of some of the top players in the state of Minnesota over the past few years. Well, in fact he hasn't had a thing to do with player development. There are former players who in fact want nothing to do with him, many of them top draft picks. The players he claims as his own have been developed by youth coaches in various associations. Mr. Bernie has had ZERO to do with their success beyond opening a door for them on the bench in the summer. This self-centered ego maniac who has minimal teaching or developmental skills feels that whatever makes him money is OK. This man needs to be exposed for what he is, an opportunistic local association enemy with little to no real background in what he claims to know. There isn't enough room for the horror stories of his behavior towards players! Enough said, BEWARE!

OK, what is his hockey background? before he started MN Pride and his hockey camps?

My son has gone through this program for many, many years. He is an excellent coach, HAS had a major influence on a number of top level players, including several current Gophers and other college level players.

In many cases, he has done more in a summer of ice with individual player development, than many youth associations could do regarding true "development" of players over several years.

He expects discipline and respect from his participants. He is up front with his expectations, and his results speak for themselves.

There are MANY satisfied players and parents who have used his program.

thanks red wings....finally someone who sees the truth. Guys like this are a joke. A couple years ago I saw a bunch of Minnesota kids get drafted and these triple A guys have the gall to claim them as their own, in terms of development etc. Minnesota youth hockey, community based, and high school programs are the ones developing these players..... not taxi drivers!!!!

ya hes terrible?! he only developed all the 88 kids who were on B teams most of there life. hes done a great job if you ask me. his 96 machine team is sick. but ya that makes him terrible

seems to me that the mn 88's were loaded with talent, i don't remember peter mueller ever being on a B team, my son played on his line when he was younger and that was A level.

I have nothing but good things to say about MM and Bernie McBain. My son was in the summer of ice program and his skating improved more in three monthes than in two years in his association. He and his coaches have the attention of all the players and they break it down and teach.

i see that this is redwings first post.so it seems this wildeyed mad man has but one axe to grind. to belittle a man who has had a hand in the development of some of the states best hockey talent is absurd and i think redwings should go back to mumbling on street corners and cursing imaginary adversaries.

What happened Redwing? Bernie cut your kid? You're are so out of your league on this one. Bernie has done great things for Minnesota hockey. Last year he got the 92's out to Ann Arbor so those kids could some exposure...first time ever a U14 team from Minnesota played before the National Development Team coaches. Last year he put together the Minnesota Made Hockey Center in Edina. His background in player development speaks for itself.

Is this thread warranted? Absolutely not! Mr. McBaine has had some sort of hand in developing some of this state's best players (88s) that make us proud (we are always happy to see minnesotans drafted).

Does Mr. McBaine's and other AAA teams out of state pose threats to the livelihood of association and high school hockey? yes, but no more than what junior leagues do.
