Does anyone know players who are going directly to DIII programs or maybe kids that have played juniors that are going the MIAC route this year?

Bryan Giordano from chaska will be playing at st. Olaf college, which is in the MIAC div.111
Justin Lee also from chaska has enrolled at gustavus in st. peter, but he is also rostered on the souix falls ushl team, at this time i am not 100% sure which route he has chosen.

Jared Smith defensement from 2005-2006 team is going to play for Mr. Harrington at St. John's University.

Colin Briscoe & Bryan Frischmann from Century are going to play at Augsburg

Tony Sackit from Mayo was recruied by the Augsbutg coach at the Kiwannnis tourney. Is he going there?

Robbie Kueser will be attending MSOE in milwaukee wisconsin. he has been the starting chaska goalie since his freshman year.

Evan Ptackick - (Apple Valley) and Cory Kopas (Prior Lake) to Concordia University of Wisconsin.

Jared Hummel is supposedly not playing at St. Cloud and instead opted for Hamline.

If you review the D3 recruit website, and scroll thru the teams, you will find several familiar names with MN ties. In many cases, these schools have a much stronger academic presence then DI schools, and these athletes should be commended for making this choice (e.g. Hummel - Hamline has a MUCH better academic record then St Cloud).

Just for those who don't know...Jared Smith played for Grand Rapids High School.

St. Cloud and Hummel parted ways prior to the start of the 06-07 season (the season he was supposed to head to SCSU.) He returned to Sioux Falls, but was traded to Chicago. It was a crappy situation in Chicago, so he left the team and eventually enrolled at Hamline.

Hummel had to go to Hamline because Motzko didn't want him, not because of better academic possibilities. Hamline probably does offer a better education THAN St. Cloud, but they will also offer him more PT.

With that said;

we then AGREE that the single most important part of the college selection process IS (ding, ding ding)...where the best EDUCATION will be available to the prospective college (student) athlete.

All other issues are secondary....including the who/what/when/where/why or anything else related to hockey (period, end of chapter, verse, story).

Thanks for helping me establish this very important point that continues to be missed by most folks on this board!

Old Guy, you are correct in MOST cases. I think it should be #1 for all, but there are many that don't even plan to stay in the school for 3 years, let alone 4. Do I think that's a mistake? I guess it doesn't matter what I think, it just happens.

When you see MN players going out east to schools, or opting for DIII, many times it's because they want to get a quality eductaion and play hockey at a high level. Let's face it, the education levels between SCSU (D1) and SJU (St. John's) which is D3 isn't even close for the most part. (some majors are exceptions here)

Nobody should pigeon-hole a group into a category, everyone is different and has needs that might not match some else's needs.

Just my $.02 worth on this fine Tuesday.
