Or the Todd Marinovich approach could work. This is where you expose your kids to nothing but a specific sport for their entire childhoods and watch as your kid subsequently quits all sports and becomes a street mime in San Francisco.

I think the kids should play other sports.
Most people like to use Gretzky at the role model for youth hockey.
Wayne played many youth sports growing up mainly Lacrosse.
Below I copied a question and answer with Wayne Gretzky.
Q: First, I want to say that I think you're the best. Ok, to my question. My son plays youth hockey, and I was wondering, what's the best way to improve all his skills at once?
A: Just be on the ice every day. Practice is obviously the biggest thing, but I think the best way to improve all your skills is to be on the ice whenever you can, just playing games, pickup games on ponds or outdoor rinks, everything. Just skate and play as much as you can.
Interesting!

breakout - don't bite he only stated "interesting" and that was advice from one of the best hockey players ever.
"Interesting" is Minnesoda passive aggressive way of expressing disagreement. See the definition of "different"
