Congrats to Bryce...This kid deserves a ton of credit fighting back from a broken neck to earn the opportunity to play in the WCHA.

How did UND lose this one? As much as he wanted to be...I don't believe he was EVER on UND's radar.

:?: :?: :?: :?: :?:

I haven't heard anything about this, and I'm hesitant to believe a statement of fact from anybody's first ever post, especially without a source.

It would seem to be a fit, but I doubt that even if UND had contacted him, they would lose any sleep over losing him.

I agree. Bryce is a good player, but this surprises me. I doubt UND will care because they wouldn't want him anyway.

I can't confirm that Bryce has signed with anyone but I do know he has offers from several d-1's including the ones already posted. It wouldnt suprise me if he signed with SCSU. He would probably enjoy playing with Marvin again. Those of you who think he wasnt on UND's radar are...wrong.

Just in case you are lumping me in that group, let me clarify... I am not or would not be surprised that UND has contacted him, I agree he's a D1 player. I'm just guessing that he is not a player that the Sioux are desparate to land, which probably goes for SCSU too. Again, he's a player any D1 team would love to have, but would not heartbroken to lose.

As an SCSU fan, I do like the thought of a Marvin/Ravndalen reunion though.

have not confirmed the SCSU talk yet, but I can tell you that he has turned down an offer for a full ride for next season from Alaska-Fairbanks and that he has had serious talks with UND UMD and WI as well

whatever happens this kid will impact any team, his attitude and work ethic alone will improve any roster. Good Luck to him!

Undercover hockey lover you need to figure out what your sources are i have heard your some kids dad who doesnt know anything and is never happy for any other northern hockey players that have a future. Mr Ravendalen has been offered by fairbanks, Umd, has talked to wisconsin and UND both saying that they were ready to talk about a scholorship and UND was very interested in Ravendalen and were very dissapointed when they found out this morning he had accepted SCSU instead of waiting for there final offer. Bryce is an impact player and is very smart on the ice he will make a difference at ST. Cloud where he has chosen to play. I was there when he called and confirmed himself as a husky. So I hope you feel good about yourself being a dad and going around beeing a fool not to mention a huge jerk to this kid. Go do something better with your time.

Whoa boy...Read the topic and posts. The topic was UND loses another one - I don't see where that's happening. It probably should have been SCSU bags another Northern Boy. Motzko is definitely catching some of the better talent out of the north half - Marvin, Christian, Oliver, Ravendalen other than Ness that's the cream of Section 8 that have recently committed. I know Ravendalen has been getting looks by numerous schools and has been working hard to get the next level. If you look back there was no critizing of him anywhere. Just the way the thread was phrased. Probably can be considered one of the top three forwards in Section 8A with Lehrke and Hahn. Hopefully, he'll have a relaxed and successful senior season now that he's not chasing a school. I don't however see him making the jump right from HS like Marvin and will probably spend at least 1 season in Tri-City. So your looking at two seasons max with Marvin; that's if Marvin doesn't blossom and leave early.

Newest Husky: Bryce Ravndalen, commit for '09

Ravndalen commits to SCSU hockey team

The St. Cloud State men’s hockey team got a commitment Monday from Bryce Ravndalen, a forward from Warroad High School. A left-handed shooter, he turns 18 on Aug. 17. According to a summer roster from the Don Lucia Hockey Camps, he is 5-foot-6 and weighs 156 pounds.

Ravndalen will be a senior for the Warriors this fall, and likely spend a year in the USHL after that, likely joining the Huskies in 2009-10. SCSU recruited him away from North Dakota, the other team interested in him most and which also made a recent scholarship offer.

Ravndalen helped Warroad to the third-place game at the state tournament last season as a teammate of Huskies recruit Aaron Marvin, who’s coming to SCSU this fall. Marvin assisted on two goals Ravndalen scored in a 3-1 quarterfinal win over Albert Lea. They lost 4-3 in the semifinals to Hermantown, and fell 7-2 to St. Thomas Academy for third place — although Ravndalen scored a goal.

He was honorable-mention all-state last season, even though he suffered a neck injury off the ice that cost him a year of hockey earlier in high school.

Congratulations to Bryce! Any time you make a D1 commitment it is exciting.

I do have to agree that this is more SCSU's gain than UND's loss, and that the topic as titled was begging for a dispute. As a Sioux fan it was disappointing when Marvin and Christian signed with SCSU, but Ravndalen's signing doesn't rise to the same level. He just doesn't seem to fit the recent protoype of a Sioux player. Hopefully SCSU is the right fit. 8)

Ok Boys...got an e-mail from my super Sioux source :-$ early this morning. A copy and paste of that e-mail..."UND was interested in him, but DID NOT offer him a scholarship. Therefore he really did not choose St. Cloud over UND (as reported in papers) - did he ?" :-s

Now hockeydbl44 the topic as you started it is not factual. =; Try Motzko bags another Northern Boy. \:D/

And gomnhky your statement is not factual either :^o ...UND had not made a recent scholarship offer...regardless of where you cut and pasted it from. #-o

Finally, once again...I know how hard the player himself has worked to get a D-1 opportunity. It was pretty evident he'd land somewhere...Good Job where ever. =D>

Allenspach's Blog Info

I saved the best for my column in Friday's edition of the newspaper, but here are some excerpts from my interview with the latest SCSU hockey recruit, Warroad forward Bryce Ravndalen. He'll be a senior this fall with the Warriors.

On why he chose SCSU over other schools: "I liked the staff and I was comfortable with the Olympic (ice) sheet. That's what we play on here (in Warroad). It's also close enough for my parents to come and see me play just about every weekend."

Ravndalen said he had scholarship offers from North Dakota and Minnesota-Duluth in addition to SCSU. He said Alaska (Fairbanks), coached by former Husky Doc DelCastillo, offered him a full ride. Ravndalen also had recruiting conversations with Minnesota and Wisconsin.

On joining a growing list of blue-chip recruits: "Aaron Marvin's one of my best friends. We've skated on the same line for two years, so I like it that he's going there, too. But there are a lot of big-time kids coming in. I played with (Jared) Festler with the Northern Wings, and (Drew) LeBlanc and (Jordy) Christian are players, too."

On Roseau's Nick Oliver, another Husky recruit who could be with Ravndalen in the 2009-10 class: "We're good buddies, off the ice. All of us (from Warroad and Roseau) know each other. We've all played together at one time or another. That all goes away once the puck drops, though."

In other SCSU news, I spoke with assistant athletic director Sue Becker today and she said the deadline for application for the Huskies' assistant coaching position is Aug. 6. She was not certain yet whether the school had to have more than one finalist for the job. Bob Motzko said he will not publicly mention any candidates unless there are multiple finalists and the school is required to make the names public.

Perhaps your "super sioux source" is not that super, unless Bryce told a fib. Either way, you got to give credit to Motzko, SCSU is going to be a very interesting team in about 2 years.

Just because a recruit was offered a scholarship at a respective school doesn't mean the amount of the scholarship was matched by the other school. The recruit will then take what he feels is the better offer (larger amount of money). This happens plenty of times in recruiting including this and the Marvin situation. Also, with Jordy Christian I will stand by my source and say he was never offered by UND.

Man, why can't you whiny sue fans just admit you lost a recruiting battle with St. Cloud? LOL!
