Bob Utech passes away

I found the following in the Star Tribune. His grandson Ben played hockey for hastings, football for the gophers and Indianapolis Colts.


R. J. "Bob" Utecht
Utecht, R J "Bob" age 87, formerly of Bloomington and Stillwater, passed away on June 23, 2007. Bob was a tireless promoter and civic booster. His love of athletics and writing led to careers as a sportswriter and as co-founder of the newsmag, "Let's Play Hockey." Bob was the original rink announcer for the Minnesota North Stars. His weekly column ran in the Bloomington Sun for 25 years. His writing career began in the 1930's with the Stillwater Gazette and ended in this century with the Stillwater Courier News. Preceded in death by wife of 60 years, Donna. Survived by children, Gretchen (Dan) Eckes, Greg (Theresa), Kristina (Alan) Perry, Jennifer Rivera, and Reverend Jeffrey (Lori); grandchildren, Adam (Alison) Eckes, Regina Eckes, Joe, Bill, Cathy, Mary, Mark (Kate) Perry, Andrea (Travis) Rabe, Reverend Jessica Rivera, James Rivera, Ben (Karyn), and Ashley (Doug) Goodmundson; great- grandchildren, Nolan & McKenzie Perry and Nora & Owen Rabe; brother, Ken (Jeane); sisters, Mary Jane Pierce and Margaret Utecht. Visitation 5-8 pm Tuesday, June 26 with Mass of Christian Burial 3:30 pm, Wednesday, June 27, both at Church of the Risen Savior, 1501 East CR 42, Burnsville (supper to follow). Memorials preferred to the Let's Play Hockey Bob Utecht Youth Hockey Scholarship Fund, 2721 E 42nd St., Mpls 55406. Published in the Star Tribune on 6/24/2007.

I had no idea he was that old.

He was great for hockey...........great hockey legacy. God Bless
