tigers win 2 of 3 santana gets the one win. probably 1-0. thyell lose the other 2 games by at least 4 runs a game though.

The one thing that the front office can ill afford even this early in the season. Apathy. They better start scoring some runs. We have players without a good eye, waiting till their in the hole 0-2 before they swing. Then they flail at the slider or offspeed pitch in the dirt. Boofs me off every time anybody but Mauer or Castillo takes that first fastball down the pike.

Morneau busts his nose thanks to Punto. I think Nick was getting mad about all the jabber about no offense from him and wanted Morneau (only offense we have) to take a few games off so Punto could try the #5 spot out. Justin says he'll play tomorrow though, thank god.

Anyone else get the feeling that the mid-90's are coming back? One pitching stud, a closer and a CF. The rest was scrap heap material. Remind you of anything? (Now we have Morneau & Mauer too, but still eerily reminiscent)

After reviewing the details I'm glad I missed this one.

I was thinking of Radke and his 20 win season, but I realized that it happened in '97 and that was after Kirby was done. I guess it could apply to Tapani (loosely) or Erickson (when healthy). But I do hear ya on the "get good seats 5 min before the game". I remember my dad calling in the morning and him taking us to a game on his lunch break and getting really good seats for pretty dang cheap. Now you can't get as good of seats and they definitely aren't as cheap, although the team seems to be playing in a similar fashion.

Btw you forgot possible studs such as Rich Rodriguez, Scott Aldred, Mike Trombley (for a season), Bob Tewksbury and I think Aguilera started 1 year.

Mike Trombley had one of the best curveballs I've ever seen from the centerfield camera.

The great deuce did not translate to overall dominance though.

1996 Twins

On May 13 they were 16-19, sounds a lot like this years club. However, two differences, the '96 team hit better, but the pitching was a lot worse. By May 1, the Twins reached double digits in scoring 5 times, including a 24-11 victory over Detroit on April 24.

When you look at the lineup, you can kind of understand why:

C: Greg Myers
1B: Scott Stahoviak
2B: Chuck Knoblauch
3B: Dave Hollins
SS: Pat Meares
LF: Marty Cordova
CF: Rich Becker
RF: Matt Lawton
DH: Paul Molitor

Had Roberto Kelly, Jeff Reboulet, Ron Coomer coming off the bench. Those guys could hit decent. Was 2nd in the AL in BA, 8th in runs, 2nd in hits, 3rd in doubles, 1st in triples and 3rd in stolen bases. That all made up for being last in home runs. Pitching was a whole other story though...

The Twins are on the verge of turning it around, but they need to get a couple of guys hot other than Torii Hunter at the plate. I think the addition of Lew Ford to the lineup is going to help out more than expected.
