Hello fellow Americans!!! This player BRETT HEBEL was just selected in the WHL bantam Draft. I notice that he has decent size already but doesn't put up many pts playing with WARROAD HS team? What can you guys tell me about this player?

I don't know of him, but 8 points playing varsity for Warroad as a 9th grader isn't bad.

He's young and really needs to fill out. He's tall but really skinny. He also needs to work on his foot speed a little bit. Time will tell, that group is pretty talented, he should get much better.

I've watched him play a bit. All I know is that hes atleast 6 ft. 190 and only a 1992 birthday. He didn't make 102's because of politics, but he is easily one of the best in his class. He'll will be a big asset to that warrior offence next year im sure.

I've heard that he is perhaps the 2nd best 1992 Born American in the country right now behind Jon Merrill. A scout told me that he is ranked ahead of:

Luke Moffat-phx
Emerson Etem, Shane Sooth and Matt Nieto.

Is he the top prospect for 1992 born in Minnesota?

Is he really going to come up north to play? hmmm.

Did he play on the District 12 team?

I didnt watch him play at the advanced 15 tryout's but i know that warroad plays in district 16 or at least it was that two years ago.

Hebel is just ok ...

hes big but he doesnt skate very well ..slow to the puck and not very physical for his size ..

definatly not the top Minnesota prospect and certainly not in the same class as

Emerson Etem, Shane Sooth and Matt Nieto

Vince Nash, a forward on the Champlain Park bantam team was the other Minnesotan taken in the draft. He was taken by Portland with the 178th pick.

Some people need to get a clue. Three total posts, one about the top 1992's in Minnesota and two about Hebel.

Nash started the season on Bantam B1s and was moved up after complications on the A team. Interesting pick.

Hebel is an American and likley not going to go to WHL. I knew Saskatoon was looking at him and not sure if that is who drafted him or not.

But if you look back in the drafts there have been some nice American players drafted who never went to play in WHL. The old man played in Canadian Juniors but doesnt mean the boy will. Good young player but should have stayed in Bantams (IMO). More games and have to be more of a go to guy at that level. I like his upside though knowing the genes having played against the old man.

I think the hunch from the WHL teams are since the father was Canadian that he may jump ship and head up north but IMO not likely. Hope he stays at Warroad and then looks at juniors after school. Good kid and good luck to him whereve he goes.

I am sure a lot of NHL scouts are looking at these SUPER 92s

Good for him...Too bad his Bantam coach pushed for him to move up too early. Wasn't ready for the jump, looked scared to go into a corner first and the dad had to give the coaches a "boost" to get him back on the first line after being moved down to the third line. If that's the second best 1992 American we're all in trouble. However, I don't see him leaving Warroad at all. Why...there are up to 41,200 reasons not to with the new Wm. and Margaret Marvin Scholarships anybody would be nuts to leave Warroad if they have plans to attend college.

Hebel was in Grand Forks this weekend, at least his name was in the roster. If that was him, he hasn't dramatically improved from the last time I saw him play 2 years ago as a Bantam A. He is a solid player, but is not extremely strong. Skinny is the best way to describe him. I did see two others that someone told me were drafted well ahead of him in the WHL draft, those being Quinten Howden and Charles Inglis. Inglis was a step ahead of most, although there were a few who kept up. Howden looked average at best. Hebel, and a few others, were equal to both. As most '92s, Hebel appears the only thing lacking in his game is upper body strength. He's a good skater, decent hands, good vision, but not strong at all. All that will come with maturity. As far as being the #2 rated '92 in Minnesota, don't go that far yet. Knochenmus is better right now, and I'm sure there's a few Twin Cities players who are better. I'd even say that Youso from I'Falls has more upside.

No way he weighs 190 maybe 160.

I saw Brett Hebel play last year and he looked very timid and wasn't aggressive at all. Maybe this is becasue he was playing varsity as a freshman, but i have a hard time beleiving that he is one of the top bantam prospects in Minnesota. Maybe he will be after he matures a bit, but right now I don't think that he is.

I don't think that Hebel is a terrible player, but I certainly don't think that he is one of the top 92's in Minnesota. He's still young, but last year he looked kind of "lost" playing varsity. When I saw him play he looked very unagressive and didn't impress me at all. Maybe when he develops more he can be considered a top player in Minnesota, but until then he's definately not one.

Funny, I just got back from Saskatoon watching the 2007 spring camp for the bantam drafts. Hebel didn't look out of place at all. Saskatoon Blades drafted him with their 4th pick so "horrible, can't skate, shoot" I have a question "can you see?" or is he just that much better than your son? These kids are 15 years old and play hockey like adults. How can you call a 15 year old a dumb ass? I personally hope Brett Hebel decides to take the WHL route because he would be an asset to any team in the WHL in a year.

All players should dominate the league they are in before they move up.

Unless your a top NHL prospect the WHL may not be the answer. I had a friend that turned down college offers and he played in the WHL for two years, then he was to old and not good enough to go any where else and he was left with NO college eligibility.

So many kids are led to believe that this is a fast track to the NHL and for some it is, for others its a fast track to end your career.

Can't imagine any reason to be in Saskatoon, unless you're the player or a family member. In either case why spout about it.
