I am somewhat surprised to see Cade Fairchild at 189. He is on the NTDP under 18 team and future Gopher. He has offensive skill and is talented at distributing the puck.

His size is part of the problem. A defenseman that isn't 6'+ still faces a negative bias with scouts even with the NHL opening up its style of play for the faster, puck handling guys.

The other issue he didn't have as good of a year as he is capable of in part because he was slowed by a few injury situations.

He should be fun to watch in college though.

Playing at the NTDP means you're a good hockey player. Being recruited by the Gophers means they feel you can play in the WCHA.

Ranked 189 means you are not NHL quality yet.

What happened to Mike Dorr who was ranked 153 in the mid term ranking in January?

Also, surprised to see J Turnbull dropped from 144 to 207, T Johnson from 103 to 144 and J Lee from 53 to 92.

On the plus side, Stejskal moves from 133 to 95, Foss from 151 to 132, Baudette from 172 to 136 and Kieffer from 170 to 140.

Very few of those listed are NHL quality.........yet

Exactly, so why worry about where they are ranked?

They are all good players. They will either continue to develop and have a shot in the NHL or they won't.

As far as a player moving up/down the list, depends on what game the scouts watched and who they have talked to about this individual.

1st rounders are good hockey players, but we can all attest that there are quite a few hockey players in the NHL who were not 1st rounders.

So, it really does not matter where you are ranked.

Drew is good, but he is not top 40 draft eligible in North America good.

Anyone have any idea how Guggs is so high up? IMO,didn't think he was a good as the other 2.

Goofy Guggs did play extremely well when he finally could play this year. Also, keep in mind, there are much fewer goalies in NA that skaters, so he really isn't rated that high. I think that would be like 3-5 round at best.

I'm guessing there's no bias at all there. you have to take into consideration that him even being rated 86th is nice for this kid because it means he'll probably be taken somewhere and if the team that takes him thinks he develops into a good enough player he'll end up on their team, there are plenty of really good NHLer's out there that weren't taken until the later rounds. you also have to remember the Canadians too so to say that he should be rated as high as even someone like O'Brien, who could have been a senior this year playing D-1 at one of the best programs in the nation, is ridiculous.

Is there any kind of a preliminary list for next years draft, out there?

look at the kids who are on this years draft list and who are eligible for next years as well. that is a start. a players to watch list comes out in july also but that is only very preliminary. NHL scouts watch the Elite League closely for the first two weeks.

It was my understanding/misunderstanding that in this more modern era of US born Pro-prospects a players draft year would be in conjunction with the individuals 18/19 birthyear. Didn't think a player had more than one chance/year to be drafted. You players out there, remmember there are many pro players that never did get drafted, so keep your dream/trust your game.......
If anyone can expand and verify any info would be appreciated....which players are re-elidgable then from the current list?
I would bet that there is already a "list" and is a work in progress. It would be interesting to see at this early point in time. I will look closer around July, thanks.....

Who is eligible?

The primary focus is upon players who have reached the age of 18 as of Sept. 15th in the draft year. That means players born up until Sept. 15, 1989 are eligible for the 2007 draft. Generally, a player who is between the age of 18 and 20 (there are other restrictions) is eligible for the entry draft.

Looking at the Players to watch list on the NHL CSS web site, there are four or so players with birthday's in 1987 (January, March, July) who are eligible for the draft. These kids are obviously 19 or 20 years old now. Most of the kids on the watch list are 1989 or 1988 birthyears.

Your first year on the ranking lists is most important. Many who are not drafted in that year, fall off in lieu of other up and coming players.

I didn't see much difference between Lee and Foss this year.

I wouldnt take too much solice in the old Central Scouting rankings. Seems like the Central Scouting is more On when it comes to the Canadian kids if you look at some past drafts versus the current listings.

In my opinion they have a much better clue as to what they are looking at as there are always kids undrafted that were never on their US radar screen so just because players are ranked doesnt mean a hiil of beans. Just look at the Devils they always seem to find sleepers out there. A lot of scouting is done soley on what they see and not by what they find out on what a player truly has for heart and smarts as well.

Just my opinions as I know of a few of these kids who are over ranked based upon some play I have seen and also their mentality on and off the ice from what I have heard form some coaches.
