Apple Valley will attempt to defend its State AAA crown this year. This is the thread to talk about high school baseball, so go watch your team play some afternoon and give some reports.

Will do boblee. The probelm with HS baseball is all the games start at 4:00. There is good reason for that but it makes it tough to see a lot of games.

I saw farmington play yesterday, they were not impressive, very sloppy. However it is early and we will see how it goes.

Hey boblee, how are the Thawks gonna be this year? I know they are always solid, but don't most of their guys from last year come back?

Should have a great pitching staff:

St Germain
Wood
Schmitz
Graupmann

The questions are the middle infield and the corner outfield spots. They have a lot of talent, should be a decent team.

Here's the best thing about high school baseball in Minnesota...

Throughout hockey season, there's a lot of back-and-forth about "I hate this team", or "that team can't be beaten"... things of that nature. A lot of arguing and disagreement.

During baseball season, on the other hand, everybody in the state comes together with one common goal... TAKE DOWN CDH!!!!

Which is the best thing about being a part of CDH baseball !!

I think at one point in time, winning state titles was the best part of being part of CDH baseball... not anymore! :D

Are there any really great "small town" high school teams out there that draw a lot of people into their games anymore? I know New Ulm always has great support for their team and draw a lot of people out their ballpark (which is pretty cool by the way - we were fortunate enough to play them there every year I played at Johnson).

I know a lot of city/suburban have a lot of people come out to their games, but that's generally family and friends. I'm talking about those "painting" type of games where the whole town shows up to an old ballpark and it's an event, not just a game.

CDH does have some of that kind of element.

Because of its location , its kind of a neighborhood team. People show up to watch who walk there and aren't parents or friends necessarily.

But because of the 4:00 starts, I dont think you will get what you are looking for anywhere.

Town ball in small towns takes on that kind of atmosphere.

Miesville Mudhens for example.

Amen to that. Go to Kings for a burger after the game. Best ever

Belle Plaine really supported their club well when they hosted the State Amatuer Tournament.

I always like the parks in Brownton, Jordan, and Arlington. The covered grandstand creates that ballpark "buzz".

We all know hockey has a bunch of different rankings but anyone got any for baseball?

Or at least does anyone have any input to any rankings they saw?

As far as I'm aware, the only real "formula" driven rankings (like PS2) are the Minnesota-Scores.com QRF Rankings, which can be explained here

To the best of my knowledge, every other "ranking" is just a poll.

They aren't out yet...but here is where you'll find the rankings of the coaches association...http://mshsbca.org/rankings.htm

As for the hardest conference. In AA, without a doubt in my mind, the West Central Conference, North Division. St. Cloud Cathedral has always been a dominant AA club (since they made it a three class system as well as when it was only two classes). Melrose has always been up there as tops in the state. Paynesville has recently been quite good placing 1st in '05 and 2nd in '06.
