Your Thoughts On Seeding

Now that we've seen 3 of the top 4 seeds go down in the AA tournament, have your thoughts on seeding the top 4 changed?

It's awesome to see the best of the best, which I believe it was a good move to do!

Yesterday every team that was supposed to win won and today practically the opposite has happened. Yesterday i thought that the seeding was just going to make the first games less interesting to make the final more competitive. Today, i am loving the upsets. I dont think the seeding is really changing things too much; the play throughout the tournament still comes down to how close the field of competition is. 2 tournaments, 2 different examples of what seeding can do... I like it

The more I think about it, I almost wish they would just seed all 8 teams, but then again I sort of like the system in place. I feel like everyone who got to the state hockey tourny is their for a reason, because they had to beat some tough competition, granted some sections can rightfully be argued for being stronger than others. However, in the grand scheme of things, anyone can beet anybody on any given night! It has been shown time and time again, and the MSHSL will never be able to please everyone, because there will always be disagreements over how something turned out. Personally, I feel bad for teams that must carry an extra burden now. They are offically ranked on the tv, and the announcers have to offically call it an upset like the Edina vs. GR game, which just seemed weird considering we don't need rankings usually to determine if the game is a huge upset or not. However, I would not call every game a huge upset either. How knows were this leads us in the future...? :?

Ditto - take the last poll where they fall to seed 1-8 and it will make it exciting. Today was awsome.

Since neither Burnsville nor Grand Rapids were seeded, anybody know how the home team is going to be determined tomorrow? Coin toss?

Rapids will be since they are on top of the bracket.

Take the seed and flush them didnt prove a thing.

At first I thought the seeding of the top 4 was ridiculous. After today, I think it is alright. Two of the top teams lost. This made all of the games more competitive and a bit closer. I'm not much for blowouts and none of the quarter-final games were, at least not until late in the game.

Correction 3 of the top 4 ranked teams lost, bc HM, Edina, and Blaine. 8)

Agree, however, it proved the coaches didn't have much faith in GR or section 7AA in general. How sad, when will they ever learn... I mean how can the team who wins section 7AA not be a top 4 seed. Thats a crime in my eyes, Cloquet, DE, ER, GR! Please...but oh well. They saw why its a flawed system here tonight! UPSET CITY 3/4 in AA :!:  :P

I don't think the coaches lacked faith in GR. They did not want to be setting the seeding. They collectively seeded them according to the last poll. They probably should have gone 1-8, instead of 1-4. The concept is good, but today shows again that it does not matter what it looks like on paper; the game is played on the ice.

Seedings are pointless

The seedings don't mean anything at all. Not during the playoffs either. Any team can win on any night. What they should do is divide the state tournament up geographically. Have 4 teams represent the north and seed them 1 thru 4 in one bracket. Then the 4 other teams could be the metro side of the bracket and they get seeded 1 thru 4.

What about the southern half?

Great idea, if you divide the state in half North and South the North has 5 AA teams, Roseau, Moorhead, East, Cloquet and Grand Rapids. And you want 4 of them to make it?

Grand Rapids didn't win 11 of their 28 games coming into the State Tournament plus they were a #3 seed they didn't deserve a top 4 seed.

Not a bad idea but that does not seem quite fair.

It's a great idea. I think it makes for better drama. Some of the teams come in with a chip on their shoulder because they didn't get a top 4 seed. And some of the top seeds may take the opponent a little lightly. This equals the possibiblity of some so called upsets.

Look at the bright side: the consolation bracket is going to be awesome

They got the seedings right. In the end, the games were decided on the ice, as it should be. And by the goaltenders. Jensen was incredible for GR!

It doesn't seem fair either that there is a possibility of having all metro teams in the AA state and the most out of state teams they would ever have is 3 (1AA,7AA, 8AA). It would be a sad day to see 1 represented by lakeville, 7 represented by elk river, and 8 by buffalo.

I really strongly believe they should seed it like sections 1 through 8.

do you mean section 1 plays 8, 7 plays 2, etc. cause if thats the case the majority of the years Moorhead or Roseau will have an easy year. Not saying that RC is incabable (as they proved yesterday), but it was the first time this Century that 1AA won in the first round

IMHO seeding only benifits metro teams--they will almost always get the higher ranking. A majority of coaches voting on ranking come from the metro, most of the teams they watch are metro teams, and will only be using an educated guess on ranking teams coming out of 1,7, and 8.
