I believe they're in Grand Rapids, but I haven't heard when. Probably the last half of March. I think they need to be "completed" by the first part of April.

I believe invite letters started going out the end of last week. I have heard that a few kids in GR have just started receiving them.

Each district has tryouts.
Kids are nominated by the bantam coaches (HS coach if the kids is not playing bantams).
About 40 skaters and maybe 6 goalies. Each district has a different number based on how the coaches handle tryouts. But MH wants about 40 kids there because it gives more kids the chance to be seen and yet is not unworkable for the coaches to pare the team down.
Each district then selects 18 skaters and 2 goalies and alternates.
The IR(12), 15 & 16 have a round-robin on a weekend. I believe it is in D16 this year at the little Ralph (but don't quote me).
The teams that do the best are slotted into an 8 team play-off with the other 4 playing a round robin. All these games are watched by coaches - evaluators (several). Their grading sheets are tabulated daily. The final day those on the bubble are watched closer. From these 240 kids about 107 are invited to the next level in St. Cloud.
Of course, all kids invited initially need to be 1992 (15 in 2007) birth dates.
Talk to your local bantam coach - he can tell you if you were nominated and why not if you were not.
If you have trouble communicating with him contact your district director (or me if you cannot reach Dave H. or Todd M.)

I'm not sure if they are all trying out, but if they do I would say from GR - Skrbec, Kleinendorst, Moore, Merritt, How & Schulte.

Some kids play a spring sport that takes precedent, or some kids simply prefer some time off.

So if I understand this correctly, there could possibly be some 14 year olds that have late 1992 birthdays trying out. so they would be young, birthwise.

Yes. The Advanced 15's are for plyers that turn 15 in 1992. Some are 15 already. The 16's are for 1991 birth year players and 17's are 1990 birth years.

These tryouts started last night - some kids seem easy to eliminate, but we'll see who comes out in the wash.

Actually it is for kids that were born in 1992. They would be about 30 years old then and would be a 1977 birth year.
Just kidding

2nd night of tryouts seemed to go better than the first. Poor ice conditions in GR made things tough to watch. Some good talent, we'll see who makes it. Agreed that some cuts will be easy to make. Probably 4-5 "bubble kids" they were closely watching tonight. Team will be set by tomorrow as there is a practice on Saturday.

Define "a slew". As I heard it, a couple of good ones were left off. Is that because there were 9, and all 9 deserved to make it and they had to be "fair" to other towns? Seems like it.

I am not sure on an exact number, but you can be certain that 9 GR players would not end up on a Virginia coached team.

Sounds like there's a lot of that going around. You'd think that once these kids got older there would be an honest tryout. Seems to get worse as they get older, not better.
