Before anybody gets all worked up over not making it to the final 51 or the national festivals in St Cloud and Rochester, NY, just remember this is just one of the many evaluation processes out there.
Recent Minnesota hockey players that never made it to national camps as 15, 16, or 17's include Blake Wheeler (Minnesota - WCHA, Phoenix NHL draft choice), R J Anderson (Minnesota - WCHA, Philadelphia NHL draft choice) and Kyle Medvec (Vermont - Hockey East, Minnesota NHL draft choice).

I heard that this tryout is all about politics, and that it doesn't mean much to be placed on the team.

There are always politics at these types of things. What % of the kids it affects........I don't know.
You also see certain parents attempting to market and spotlight their kids. Sometimes they coach at every level to get it done. Sometimes they get on association hockey boards. Sometimes it's getting articles printed that reference their child.
The reality is: in the long run it doesn't matter. If you are truly good enough you will be discovered.
Keep working on your skills and have fun!

It's sad actually... about 3/4 of the kids from every team, are kids from AA schools. The A kids really don't get that much of a chance... at least that's in my opinion

ill be happy to name D1 AA players for you.
white, mcdoungh, christian, matson, brutlag, estocelt, student, hanson, ness, dorr, buddish, reber, gleason, ellingson, johnson, oliver, larson.
*by the way on that list you got 10 players already committed to WCHA schools (white, mcdoungh, christian, matson, hanson, dorr, gleason, johnson, oliver, larson)
i never said A players arent good, im just saying that arent at the talent level of AA players. you only named what 4 people i know you can name more but so could i.

dude, dont even start about this TOMMY THOMPSON (wild vice pres). the A level has just as good QUALITY hockey players as AA but not the QUANTITY of skilled players

Definitely true, and I think that's why the teams are 75% or so AA. The elite players match-up pretty well between AA and A.

This is an invite thing. Have to be nominated by your HS coach.

I'm not quite sure how this works?
I know that there is four phases but, do they have the St. Cloud tourney and then pick the national team or somebody explain the phases.

It goes:
1) The invite tryouts
2) The invite tournament
3) The St. Cloud Camp (if you are invited)
4) The National Team (if you are selected)
