All sections - A & AA - will be realigned.

Also - some teams may move from A to AA and vice versa due to enrollment changes, as well as the "assisted lunch rule" counting change, and also the option for A teams to move/stay at AA.

Assisted lunch rule? Do you mean free and reduced lunches?
Why?

The sections are adjusted every two years. It happens to A two years in a row, b/c of the switch to 8 sections in the year that sections weren't realigned.

I'm told that the MSHSL has a new way to divide sections that they will use this year. Not sure how that will affect who ends up where. I was originally told the new sections were supposed to be out this past weekend, but since the deadline to opt up was this past Thursday, I anticipate we are few weeks out yet from seeing the new sections.

Schools have been told what classes their teams will be assigned to. The sections for fall and winter sports are in the process of being drawn and usually are announced sometime in early March. Spring sports are usually announced in mid-April.

Hockey Cutoff went up quite a bit... Note that the AA big # at the top was likely either the St. Paul or Mpls co-op I assume... now it has maybe been adjusted for assisted lunch???

That higher figure will pull alot of schools into A that were not there.
Opinions?

Yes, but, we also have to wait for the opt-ups to be finalized. 4PM on 2/22 was the deadline for this I believe as JJ stated before...

I'm uncertain how things work from there...

Forgot to mention earlier that it may be that grades 9-12 are being counted this year for enrollment #'s vs. 10-12 in past??? Maybe that's why the higher A/AA cutoff vs. past??? Just a guess as I really don't know...

What will be interesting is whether the W/L record is a bigger factor than the geographical representation for section realignment. We all hear talk, rumors etc but what I have heard some say is that for the sections with 2-3 very strong teams they will leave them in there to keep battling it out, even if they are geographically separated.

If what you've heard is true then it would appear that they are at least considering each section's strength of teams, in addition to where the schools are located. Some have said that all that counts is the geography.

Strength of team has absolutely nothing to do with where teams are placed in a section. It is all about geography.
