What are the predictions. I say North Metro completes the Cinderella Story, 3-2.

I'll take that action and predict that Stillwater beats them 4-2

boblee, I'll go with Stillwater 4-2.
But even though it's for the State Championship, Stillwater has to guard against a letdown, strange as it may seem. Roseville is their HUGE RIVAL, and tonight's victory had to emotionally be very draining. North Metro has exceeded all expectations, and they have nothing to lose by just going for it.

I was at the NM-Burnsville game, and I watched tonight's game on TV. There is something about NM. They should not have won either game. It will be a good game, so will the third place game.

Should be an exciting finish to the tournament. A final I'd guess not too many expected but one I'm personally happy to see...regarding both teams. I'll take Stillwater for a 1-2 goal win.
Whatever happens, congrats to both teams for fine seasons...seasons to be proud of. Same goes for GRG, Bemidji, Roseville, Burnsville, BSM & Rochester Mayo.

I'm really happy for the N Metro team and fans--they surprised everybody. They have the largest and loudest student section at the tournament, a good band, lots of fans--you'd never know it was a co-op by watching.

Cindarella story? Your kidding right? Everyone I have talked to comments on what a joke this situation is. Take the best players from 4 or 5 schools and combine for a team that could possibly win the state championship. Just a disgrace and no one yet has been able to answer me how this happened? How they can form for just one team. Unbelievable.

Dont make me laugh. Whats the combined population of those 5 "small towns" about 400,000 people??? Not to mention one of those programs just won a state title on their own not too long ago. A total sham. Go Ponies.

It is no different than having O/E players on a team. or a private school with kids from all over! It truley is a cindarella story. Look at their record.
Go Stars!!!!!!!!!

North Metro will win. Actually they have to win to start building some more state hs girl's hockey tournament history that people can talk about 50 years from now.
might be closer to 100,000 mnhockgal with a medium age of 52+ with a medium income that pales in comparision to Stillwater. They are still the underdogs here and get my support tonight.
I noticed they took down the 'down in flames" post off from last night. Probably too many controversial statements ( though more fact then fiction and funny to boot) or maybe bsm $$ contingent got to the blog masters?
So will this bsm coach be removed now too becasue he didn't win a state championship?

Gopher9 - What goes around comes around has nothing to do with these two teams so why bring up old news that is no longer is applicable? Give credit where credit is due. The girls on both teams play the game and should be applauded for giving a great effort and providing a very entertaining game.
Congrats to Coach Gravel and the North Metro Stars. As I have known him on a personal basis for some time he deserves credit for winning teams in the Wayzata youth program and at BSM. Unfortunately his welcome and coaching style was not a good fit any longer at BSM. As you see he landed on his feet with the newly formed NMS and has brought these girls together for a memorable season. Congrats!
Dave Herbst, the new Coach at BSM, should also be given credit for having a very successful 1st year and taking the girls to the State Tourney. It was not an easy task to advance out of Sectionals having to beat highly ranked Edina and Wayzata to get to the Xcel. With EP getting beat by Wayzata made the road a little bit easier but no easy task to accomplish. Congrats to Coach Herbst.

They should have the largest fan base they are 5 schools with about 4500 students combined,
But none the less it made for some good hockey!
Congrats to all of the teams in the state tournament, Enjoy every moment these will be your good ol' times to remember for years to come!

Says who? That his welcome and coaching style was not a good fit? 1 or 2 parents? It certainly was not the A.D. And as far as coach Herbst your right he does deserve alot of credit. Congrats to both teams and good luck tonight.

I'd have to agree with those that don't quite buy the North Metro "Cinderella" angle. Not quite your "Hoosiers" Hickory Huskers vs. Goliath scenario taking place here. I personally don't consider either team an underdog in this one. Two good teams playing for a title regardless of how those teams came to be. I also don't see how a particular geographic area's median income is remotely relevant to a high school hockey game.

I'm going to have to go with North Metro 5-2..they seem to be playing with more heart. Way to rep the NWS conference!

Cinderella story? I just don't see it. Centennial had an opportunity to play North Metro twice this year. Early in the season the Big Red Cat lost to North Metro-later in the season they won. After the first game, North Metro 15 (cable TV station) interviewed a player from North Metro who stated that their goal was to make it to State. (not a quote) That sounds like they knew they had the talent and the coaching to get where they are today. Cinderella? No-they are a good team-who have been playing very good all season.
My only question would be: why were these schools able to field girls hockey teams last year however this year they could not? (this is not sarcastic) I realize that some of these communities are "first tier" communities but so is Roseville. I hope someone who knows that facts can answer correctly.
Also, there is no comparision to this situation and O/E. O/E is when players leave their school district to play for another team. The MSHSL gave permission to these schools districts to merge their girls hockey program due to the fact that none of these schools could make up one team. (period)
No prediction here-both Stillwater and North Metro have what it takes to win the State Tournament!

C'mon - NM is a complete surprise - how often do unranked teams play for all the marbles in boys or girls hockey? This team lost or tied 10 times during the regular season. No one would have cared or complained about them if they just lost quietly in sections.
The nice thing is that some of the girls on NM played on Tri-City last year, which was on the end of several 10+ point whippings - including a couple 15 goal losses to BSM and Irondale. Nice to see them get a shot to compete and take advantage.

This could not be better. Now we dont have to listen to the parents of 6AA about how great all the teams are in that section. Now a team from section 3AA or 4AA will be the champion. Congrads to Stillwater and North metro

I hate to jump in the middle of this, but some thoughts on the matter:
NMS is a great story, but it's starting to get tainted on here as they're now being treated the same way that some hate privates, OE-heavy teams, and now we have co-ops added to that list. I don't buy the idea that a co-op is any worse/better than a private or OE heavy school that so too can draw kids from wherever. If I had to guess who has an easier time drawing top talent, it would obviously be OE/Private situations. I highly doubt NMS attracted any such kids.
The 8th grade G and some opportunistic scoring made all the difference last night. BSM was obviously more talented, but NMS believed they had a shot. Did it make any difference that BSM was playing against their prior coach? It was a difficult situation to say the least and I'm sure the players had mixed emotions about everything. The GWG for NMS was scored by a 9th grader that will likely be one of the better HS players in the state by the time she's done.
It's no secret that NMS is NOT the favorite once again, but it seems they have done well in this role. SW is a heck of a team though and once again it will take some amazing goaltending and opportunistic scoring for NMS to give SW a run. It's not impossible, but we'll see what happens. If nothing else, I know Gravel & Co. will have that NMS team believing they can give SW a game, but we'll see what SW has to say about that too...
