KATHARINE CHUTE

Blake, forward, sr.

Quick, tenacious leader of the Bears (23-4), who take No. 1 rating into Class 1A tournament. Has 38 goals, 34 assists for 72 points. Ms. Hockey finalist. College choices down to Dartmouth, Harvard and Yale.

ERIN CODY

Roseville, forward, sr.

Strong, consistent all-around player with incredible hands, big shot. Led Raiders to Suburban East and Class 2A, Section 2 titles. Has a team-high 49 points on 29 goals, 20 assists. Signed with Bemidji State.

JENNA KILPATRICK

New Prague, forward, sr.

Had at least a point in 25 of 27 games. Had six hat tricks, one five-goal game. Finished season with 39 goals, 42 assists for 81 points and 483 career points, second all-time. Ms. Hockey finalist. Signed with Ohio State.

ASHLAN LAMBERT

Eden Prairie, defender, sr.

The Eagles' fastest player. A big reason why EP gave up only one goal per game and shut out 12 opponents. Finished with five goals, 22 assists. All-State twice. Ms. Hockey finalist. Signed with Boston College.

AMALEE WINDMEIER

Coon Rapids, defender, sr.

A big, strong player who handles the puck extremely well and can control a game. Had 14 goals, 25 assists for team-high 39 points for Northwest Suburban co-champions. Signed with Wisconsin.

ASHLEY NIXON

Blaine, goalie, sr.

Faced an average of 27 shots per game, yet still had eight shutouts, a 1.74 goals-against average and a 93.5 save percentage. Always gave Bengals (16-8-3) a chance to win. Signed with St. Cloud State.

How the teams were selected

• The 2007 Star Tribune All-Metro girls' hockey team was selected primarily on ballots returned by 28 metro-area coaches.
The six players on the first team are all first-time picks. Three of them -- Katharine Chute of Blake, Jenna Kilpatrick of New Prague and Ashlan Lambert of Eden Prairie -- are among the five finalists for Ms. Hockey, an award presented to the state's top senior by Let's Play Hockey after the state tournament.

Part of the reason I do that is that then we never lose the text after the articles slip out of the paper archives - although I'm sure eventually they may have a problem with this...

Great choice IMO - very deserving and best of luck to her in the tournament this week and beginning this fall when she starts her college career. Not too many graduating seniors have earned the opportunity to "pick" between Dartmouth, Yale and Harvard.

I'm biased of course but seems there is one TEAM conspicuously absent from the lists - EDINA. Somehow they managed to win a few games without any big stars.

Edina & Wayzata has kids missing for certain, but this may be a compliment in some respects as their team play was outstanding and while many very good players, their team play was a huge part of their success??? I would say that depth wise very few teams are as deep as Edina & Wayzata.

Getting named also requires some promotion by your team coach. Some coaches do not choose to do this. Eden Prairie's coach is reknown for promoting his players and it shows in the number of players represented on these teams.

On the other hand, with 5 out of the 18 players on the three teams, it can almost make the coach look bad - all of those superstars and they aren't even in the state tournament???

What did he do this year? He took 3 subpar teams, put them together and made a team that could actually compete. If other teams were able to do this like park center was the teams would actually be 3 lines deep. Not so fast...Getting a team of "All Stars" to play as a group is not necessarily easy. Besides, to get to State, the NM girls still had to beat the defending section champs (Coon Rapids) and a team that had gone 10-4 in their last 14 (Anoka). Whatever you think of Gravel and the co-op, that's no small feat.

You'd think with an enrollment of almost 2,000 and the legacy of Chrissy Wendell, Park Center could field its own team.

This post is not meant to take anything away from the girls and what they have accomplished, they are all good hockey players and deserving of a state tournament.

Away from the girls, isn't it embarrassing that our high school league promotes cheating and doing anything possible to win? Park Center had over twenty girls in their program for this year, neighboring programs had it the low twenties, one or two over what Park center has. Is it fair for programs around them that they got to co-op to scrounge for the players they didnt have such as a goalie and maybe a fourth line? This does not seem right to me. And what about the girls that got cut or scared away from trying out for the team because they had so many girls? If the only way they can get out of their section to the state tournament is to combine five teams and take a home rink advantage for all three section games, then something needs to be changed in each individual program. High school sports is suppose to teach you life lessons, if one of the life lessons is teaches it to cheat and take the easy way out to win, not work hard and push yourself, then i dont want my daughter involved in it

I would like to comment on the under informed "annonymous", and might I add, gutless cry babies who type without facts.

No one whines in the 2005-2006 season when Coon Rapids aquires an all metro caliber transfer player in her junior year and rides her skills to a state runner-up trophy.

No one complains when for the 2006-2007 season, Maple Grove absorbs six Osseo players leaving them with only six and no ability to field their own team.

No one says a word when an Anoka star transfers to Breck to start the 2006-2007 school year and then transfers back to Anoka after the hockey season has started.

This is not to meant impune these girls, it is just meant to enhance the "whiners" prospective.

The fact that some refer to North Metro as an "all-star" team is rediculous. Without going into detail here, I challange anyone to take a look at the roster and show me the "all-stars". This is a group of average skaters who have been brought together and learned how to play as a team.

No girls were cut from this program. If you showed up for tryouts, you were on either JV or Var.

As for Park Center being able to field thier own team? You are correct. They could have but would have had no JV. As for the number of student to draw from? Have you been to Brooklyn Park/Brooklyn Center aka. "Brooklyn Dark"? That is not my slang term but one that is thrown around quite often where I live. Low income families and new arivals from Laos, Vietman, Somalia, Nigeria, Panama, Mexico, Liberia, South side of Chicago, Gary Indiana and not to mention N. & S. Minneapolis. Most of these cultures do not believe their females should be involved in these types of opportunities. They feel their financial recources are better served elsewhere and that their women should be at home helping to raise the family.

I'm glad this forum exists. It helps to fire up our troops.
Why don't some of you "chickens" use your real names or at least use some real data when trying to sway public opinion.
I'll be at the tourney all weekend if you'd like to engage me in person. I look forward to it.

Sorry to anyone who had come to this thread looking for discussion on the All-Metro team. It seems to have strayed a bit.

Kudos to the North Metro Stars!

What a great thing for girls hockey. These girls will probably play harder than any other team tomorrow.

Those that know Jack Gravel, know what a great person he is! Good Luck Jack! If you read what Jack said in the paper... This is gravy! have fun girls!!!

Sour grapes for who wish to complain. Remember these are young girls that are working hard and making memories.
