MN Hockey Dave Peterson Advanced Goalie Camp announces exciting changes
There are some exciting changes planned for the third Minnesota Hockey Dave Peterson Advanced Goalie Camp, set for July 26-29 at the Schwan Superrink/National Sports Center complex in Blaine.
This goalie development program is designed for the top 48 Minnesota goalies in the 15-18 year-old age group. Goalies are invited to participate based on their performance in this spring’s USA Hockey Boys and Girls Advanced Festivals and Camps.
“We started the Dave Peterson Advanced Goalie Camp two years ago because we realized the need to provide high level development opportunities for goalies in this important age group,” explained Mike MacMillan, USA Hockey’s Minnkota District Coach-in-Chief. “This camp brings Minnesota’s top goalies together with our state’s best goalie instructors to learn the latest techniques in a truly unique and challenging environment. The changes being made this year will make this camp even better than it has been in the first two years.”
The biggest change being made is that coaches from men’s and women’s college hockey teams and Elite I and Elite II fall high school leagues will be invited to observe the goalies during the four-day camp. This will allow them evaluate the goalies in a variety of situations and help them identify our state’s top goalie prospects.
“This will add a whole new element to the camp,” explained Steve Carroll, director of the MN Hockey Dave Peterson Advanced Goalie Camp. “In addition to having the opportunity to work with a variety of expert coaches, goalies will now have an extra incentive to perform well for the various scouts who will be in attendance.”
Participants will get nine hour of intense on-ice training and nine hours of off-ice instruction. The goalies will be housed in the dorms at the National Sports Center. Some of the off-ice instruction is scheduled to take place in the new Herb Brooks Training Center. New classroom topics like stretching, nutrition and mental sports training are also expected to be part of this year’s program.
The coaching staff for this year’s Advanced Camp has not been finalized. Coaches who have helped at first two camps with the on-ice and off-ice instruction include: Steve Carroll, Des Christopher, Bill Corbo, Clint Elberts, Kevin Galbraith, Shaun Goodsell, Steve Guider, Jen Hanley-Tuttle, Adam Hauser, Steve Houge, Justin Johnson, Doug Long, Jackie MacMillan, Matt Millar, Kirk Olson, Sue Lynn Peart, Tom Peart, Bob Rajanen, Chris Spanier, Robb Stauber, David Wenniger.
