3-1 Edina with an empty net goal to make it 3-1. IMO: Two very close teams. Edina has more depth, but they are playing on Wayzata's home ice... Should be a good game!

I'll also go with 3-1 Edina, but no empty netter. You are right - this should be a very good game. Wayzata will be fired up.

You had the score right but it was Wayzata 3-1....

I will add that Wayzata has depth as well, they just kept coming at us for 3 periods. This section with EP-BSM-Wayzata-Edina and Hopkins is up for grabs. It will come down to what team is healthy or injury free that takes it.
This could be a wake up call for the Green Machine I hope.

Wayzata 3 Edina 1

yea that was the final score I'm sorry to say

Wayzata 3 Edina 1
Wayzata is a very good team, and even though Edina had to be heavily favored going in, nobody should be totally shocked at the outcome. If anyone who was there cares to post a summary of how the game went, I'm sure many reading this thread would appreciate hearing your comments.

This only proves without a doubt that Section 6 is unbelievably tough, and you can't take any game for granted.

Do you feel EP has a legit shot to lose in sections? They arent scoring lately, and several teams appear to be "coming on". What are the odds they lose??? I really like Edina, and BSM I havent seen, but they still have some firepower, not?

Whatever anyone does, I wouldn't count out Edina just yet as a result of the Way game. EP is the frontrunner here obvioulsy, but anyone has their work cut out for them in such a stacked section. As someone said above, get there early for the section semi's & finals @ Parade as it will be as good as a state tourney in many respects!

Section 6 is loaded and any team could beat anybody on a given evening. Teams have to be ready to play. I'd have to say EP is still the favorite in this section.

Also, what I've noticed about EP is their defense has shut opponents down. I believe they have everyone back from last years blue line. Defense is more important than scoring goals. In the playoffs teams that can play defense will win!

Wayzata also has a great pair of blue liners. This combined with a hot goalie can get your team far in the playoffs.

IMO: BSM needs to be given more credit. They have an incredible scoring power on their top line. It could give Edina, EP, Wayzata or Hopkins nightmares if they don't respect it. BSM losing their top defender may be a factor.

Section 6 is just warming up!

So will this win by Wayzata lock up the # 4 seed? The way it sits right now: #1 ep, #2 edina, #3 BSM, #4 wayzata, & #5 Hopkins?

EP is and should be the favorite to win the section, but yes I do think there is a legititmate shot they could get upset. IMO there are 5 teams that would potentially have the capability to pull it off, but EP will only have to face two of them. Probably either Wayzata or Hopkins in the semi's and then either Edina or BSM in the final. But none of these teams should look past their first round opponents either.

BSM does have firepower offensively especially from Amanda Trunzo and Kate Bacon. They are working extremely well together this year and always seem to know where the other one's going and what she's going to do. These two on their own have accounted for 139 points out of the team's total of 332, more than 40%. The second line can also score - Emma Shields-Nordness was an NDP player last year and was selected to go to Lake Placid - great two way player and playmaker - and Liz Burg is a real sniper with a deadly wrist (snap) shot, in addition to being an excellent skater and forechecker. Their third line hasn't scored a whole bunch, but they've played very well defensively and rarely get scored on. The team's goaltending and defense have for the most part been very solid too, surrending a maximum of four goals just twice (to Blake, in their first meeting, and recently to Edina - these were two of their three losses). Overall this season they've given up an average of 1.5 goals per game, while scoring just over 6.

Also you may have heard that the team has been playing for the past month or so without their star senior defenseman, Shannon Reilly who's been out with an ankle injury. Shannon been missed especially for her offensive skills and what she adds to the power play. Fortunately the team has very good depth at defense and this has helped minimize the impact of her not being in the lineup. Shannon is scheduled to resume skating next week and there is at least a decent chance she'll be back for the playoffs.

IMHO, while many of the other names at BSM are well known and deservingly so, Shields-Nordness is one of the most under-rated players in the G HS Game. She was on the NDP P2 team I "coached" and was absolutely amazing.

And - Reilly is deeply missed, but it speaks volumes about the depth at BSM for them to persevere with the loss of one of their obvious leaders and one of the all-time best D in the G HS game.

Ohio State obviously must agree with your assessment!

And what you say about the team's depth is very true, because since Shannon Reilly's been out of the lineup they've actually moved one of the other defensemen (8th grader Molly Byrne) up to third line forward, going to a 5-person rotation at D: Ashley Duffy/Julie Baumgartner, Elsa Perushek/Lindsay Domaas, and Melissa Borer.

Based on strength of schedule and overall record, Wayzata should receive the #4 seed IMO. However, they lost the season H2H to Hopkins and also recently dropped another conference game to 1-6-1 Tonka.

Won't matter because #4 plays #5 in round one anyway in what should be a great re-match. The winner then likely against Eden Prairie in the semis.

What happened to Reilly?
