At risk of getting blasted here: is Denfeld really a state tournement caliber team this year? Was any of the teams that Hermantown has faced in the playoffs section championship material?? Honestly?
All depends on what you mean "State Tournament" Caliber... I would think that Denfeld would beat both Mankato East and Hutchinson who both will be playing in St. Paul next Wednesday FWIW, so yes I would consider the Hunters a pretty decent squad.

I'm surprised that there isn't more uproar within the Hermantown community to move them up to AA on a couple of year trial basis...might even help recruiting to get the boys to the bigger show

Or, all the other AA teams could be like East and just not schedule them. I understand cec has to with being the LSC and rapids being in it.

I'd love to see Hermantown, Denfeld, Hibbing, and Rock Ridge all simultaneously announce that they're opting up to AA. That would restore Section 7AA to the way it's supposed to be.

The Hermantown parents I know don't want to. They look at losing in the PeeWee or Bantam
AA STATE Tournament as proof they should be A.

I would also add the 2A (Delano or Armstrong/Cooper), 4A (Mahtomedi or SSP), and 5A (Monticello or Pine City) champions as state tournament teams that Denfeld could foreseeably defeat. Denfeld would either be the five seed or last unranked team.

And 7A would become comparable to the southern Minnesota sections?

Is this correct. Teams that opt up value competing more than winning, and teams that opt down value winning more than competing. Is this statement close or way off.

Kniven hit the nail on the head. "The AD" doesn't care about competing at the AA level, they are all about chasing trophies. Because out shooting your opponent 50-10 in the section final and winning your QF game at state by a touchdown certainly isn't about competing. The best though is when they say that they can't move up to AA because they don't have enough numbers in Squirts and Pee-Wees. By the time they get to Bantams they seem to find more kids and are competing for AA titles at both PW and Bantam on a regular basis. They aren't breaking any rules, but don't seem to care about challenging themselves in HS like they do at the youth levels.

Not exactly true.
In the last ten years starting in 2010 QF scores have been:
29-3 29-8 26-3 24-3 20-9 19-3 29-6 15-9 15-5 24-6
Hermantown's margin in that time period
1 4 5 3 3 8 8 1 2 not there

Question for the die hard Hawk faithful. Would a Hermantown - Andover been an Amsoil sellout last night?
Asking for a friend.

This is easy. AA teams should not schedule them in HS. Done.
No more games against Wayzata, EP, Benilde, Totino, Cretin, Holy Family, Lakeville South and Hill-Murray. Stick to A schools and beat on them. Then watch the revolt unfold.

I happened to see Blake Biondi in attendance at the game Thursday...and the exact same thought (Northwoods Oldtimer) crossed my mind...Oh well...he & Kaiser will be battling in practice soon enough

It would be an interesting crowd...those cheering for Andover or Hermantown. The northerners cheering against the metro school. The rest cheering against Hermantown, no matter who they were playing

I'd have no problem cheering for Hermantown if they were playing in AA. At the same time, I have nothing against the metro schools either. But when you have a wealthy suburban (Duluth) school that has drawn in players (and in some cases, very good players) from neighboring communities and the Iron Range is still pretending that they are a small and/or disadvantaged school, it has to stop. I probably won't even watch their games in the state tourney.
