D6 no longer gives an automatic bid to the regular season champ. I have mixed feelings on whether it was the right thing to do or not.

I share the same quandary, Les. There's two potential minuses - first, it clearly has reduced the impact of HEP points. Not that the current obscenely rigid calls by D6 refs hasn't done that by itself. But there is clearly reduced importance and urgency on playing a stellar regular reason. Last year, it was definitely a big deal to finish first, and that guided good and consistent behavior in the regular season. These are the minuses. Could this be somewhat of a driver in the psychology of the Edina teams? Hard to say...
On the plus, it does recognize and value teams that peak late in the season. In D6, there has been very strong showings as of late, particularly Tonka and Burnsville. It now means everything to place above the line in the year end tournament. Likewise, is this serving as motivation for those kids to "bring it" late in the season? Again, hard to say.
Having said all that - the D6 tournament will be a barn burner - all or none affair which will make for some great hockey to watch!

I think D6 made the right choice . . .
Maybe that's jaded by the fact that my team went from 1st to 8th . . .hmmm

A different year and I might be upset again!
Can't think about playoffs yet . . . have to prepare for for two opponents on Wednesday!

thanks blueblood
interesting but as i was looking through it i saw that the south wont be lop sided like last year (we got lucky getting the first seed) but it wont be the case this year
two more questions is regions still double elimination
and do the top 2 team in the region play go to state or is it like last year if you lost in the championship you would have to play a game aginst a team that lost there first game and then dident lose again
Region Format

The region format will pit the 8 teams into 2 pools of 4 teams in a round robin style of games.
After pool play,
Winner of Pool A plays runner up of Pool B - winner to State
Winner of Pool B plays runner up of Pool A - winner to State

Turk - I love come back games. More so if it is a team I'm pulling for! sounds like this was quite the game to watch
HockeyGuru#6 - I would like to see Tonka continue their winning ways and mess up the District 6 standings even more

Wow another barn- burner in District 6 tonight
Chaska 2
EP Black 2
First Period scoreless
Second Period EP gets one on being in right place at right time, Chaska comes back on a backhand shot later in the period. Then EP comes right back on a tremendous rush and effort to tally the second.
Third Period - 2-1 until about 7-8 minutes remaining. Then on a 5-3 powerplay Chaska ties the game on a nice redirected shot.
The powerplay Chaska was on was due to two separate hooking penalties called on the same play. Pretty invasive insertion of a referees control of the game so late.
But I hate to question him since he did call a interference penalty on Chaska that waved off the go-ahead goal. That was a proper call because the Chaska player in front basically moved the defenseman out of the way for the Chaska center to circle from behind the net and get an angle for a shot. I couldn't believe he actually caught it so who knows?? It just seemed the tone of officiating changed completely halfway through the 3rd.
Both teams played well. If there was time of possession kept or points awarded for riding time EP would have earned an extra point. They forechecked very well.
Chaska had spirit and heart tonight. They skated well most of the game. If they had played this way in Anoka a different story may have been told.
Fun, Fun, Fun, the rest of the way in D6
Ok the Top Chef finale is coming on ....Out

Both Edina white and green got their HEP points.
This was a great back and forth game. Edina Green scored in the first 5 minutes with a shot that went of an Edina White players skates. The White scored with a wrister from the high slot.
Should be an interesting rest of the year for all teams in D6

So much for kissing your sister..saw two great ties last night in D6'ville and even had time for a thirst quencher between games. EP slightly outplayed Chaska in the early game and I thought White dominated Green the first half of game of Edinas (why 9:00 start time??) . Solid goaltending by both makes it a 1-1 finish, pretty sure each got HEP point in Edina....
Standings are now a complete mess. Maybe D6 should think about shootouts for ties?

Good Luck Tonka this evening!
Mess up the standings some more

I HATE the split 4 team pool play idea.
Team A goes 3-0 in pool play and loses in final game - does NOT go to State. Team B goes 1-1-1 in pool play and wins some stupid tie breaker and wins last game to go to State. Team B with worse record gets to go over team A.
I much prefer the double elimination bracket play used in the past Regional Tournies - used in PW A and Bantam A in recent years. Both methods require nearly the same total number of games (13 double elim vs 14 pool play). Plus it guarantees a head to head game to determine the second team.

My2Cents is right on. The pool play is going to screw a derserving team. Plus you can play to a tie in pool play. OT is part of the fun of playoffs. The sense of urgency goes down in pool play because there are other factors that can determine the state play-in game.
Brackets are more exciting and like I said, the urgency goes up and that makes for more exciting play and anticipation for the fans.
D6, wow.
Someone deserving is going to have to take the wild card route. A couple of more games in the most stressful, random, any team on any day playoffs maybe in Bantam B history. Unbelieveable.
What kinds of predictions do we have for D2, 10 and 3 playoffs.
Mine:
D2: Stillwater is playing like a team possesed. Very physical. WBL should be scared. I pick Stillwater as D2 champions.
D3: Blake and MG tied which only makes the log jam closer. Wayzata Blue has beaten everyone at least once including two spankings of Blake and Maple Grove. I pick Wayzata Blue as D3 champions.
D6: Mix up the bag.....got a slip out of the hat.... Its EagleGuy! I think this is as random as it gets. Dont get me wrong Edinas, EPs, Jefferson, Burnsville, Chaska are deserving but EagleGuy has the veteran leadership and maybe a little scorn after last years two losses in two days championship. I pick Eden Prairie Black as D6 champions.
D10: Difficult, another random playoff. Goaltending doesnt favor Blaine. In the scope of things Centennial Red could be there but havent really accomplished much in big games this year. ER is big in semi-big games (see all of their mediocre tournament wins) Champlin has never really been a powerhouse at any level. I pick Chisago Lakes to win D10 because they dont have an A team. How is that for logic?
Let the ripping of SPS begin.......

I would love to see the Chisago Lakes Team and I wish them well. Agree with you since they do not have an A team there is probably some nice talent to lead them.
I don't know if mathmatically if Black can still take D6 with the number of remaining games they have and their current point total. I do predict them to make a statement in playoffs.
Edina white has to be unhappy having the best W/L record at 10-3-1 but middle of the pack in standings (not seperated by many points) because of only 5 Barney points out of 14 games? EP red still has a few games in hand over the rest.

I guess I was talking about playoff champions. Sorry for the confusion.

ties? thats dumb and plus only one game really matters and u can still get the best seed
but u have to admit no not good teams will be in the tourny anymore
