Tom to Andover

Andover will be grateful to have such a great person that wears his passion for the game on his sleeves. He has worked tirelessy for the Tri-City program and has promoted his players to every college coach around. Tom deserves this oppurtunity to coach in a growing community like Andover. If my daughter wasn't 9, I'd transfer her there.

Do any of you SSP people have an update on Palmquist. I know he interviewed and was offered the Edina job 2 weeks ago, but no confirmation as to if he accepted it or not.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p074.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... dChase1 at: 6/29/05 7:18 am

I'm an Edina parent and we're all as puzzled as anybody. The grapevine has been buzzing with the "news" but the school has been silent. Maybe the AD went on vacation or something? Calling the school has been unsuccessful for me.

Palmquist turned down the job and it was given to Mark Stephan. He has coached the Edina U12 A team the past few years and has also worked with the H.S. team. This info is right from the A.D.

Palmquist or Stephan are both wonderful choices. I had the honor of coaching with Mark with his Magik AAA team last year for a couple events.

The new Edina coach is Mark Stephan. Dave Palmquist had been offered the job, accepted, and was approved by the school board but for some reason then decided to not take the job. The job was then offered to Mark Stephan who accepted and has been approved. Mark brings over 10 years of experience in the Edina girls program from Mites to High School. He is a proven coach and is committed to the community and has a true passion for girls hockey. Many of us who have been active with the girls program in Edina are very happy!!!!

Mark Stephan? Is this the same Stephan who played hockey for Albert Lea then transfered to Shattuck in the early 80s? He also went on to play football at Carlton College in Northfield.

It is the same. He has been coaching girls hockey for over 10 years at Edina. He coached their U12As to the state title in 2004.

Gary Evans will not be one of Mark Stephan's assistants. Mark Stephan's assistants will be Mark Heigl and Sam Cornelius. Mark Heigl has coached with Mark Stephan for the last several years in the Edina girls program and Sam Cornelius took over for Stephan when he stepped down as assistant varsity coach the previous season. Both have a long history in Ediuna youth hockey.

The coach for Morris/Benson/Hancock is listed as Jeff Mahoney. I wasn't aware that the job was open, but this is someone new from last year.
