That's about as dellusional (and disrepectful) a statement as I've ever seen on this board.
There's some good bantams playing who happen to be in 9th grade - but not a single one of them -
not even one - not Senden, not Bellows, not Wait, not Anderson - (all great players, I kight add), - not a single one of them , great players as they might be - would crack the top 10 of current freshman playing this year.
Sorry, but that dog aint hunting this year
This years freshmen are about as deep and elite as we've ever had in Minnesota. (NOT a knock at all on frosh playing bantams this year - but our frosh playing varsity are FANTASTIC in 2012-13)
caveat - (possible exception at Shattuck - they
might have a couple freshman crack the top 10)

No time to update for Thursday games yet, but I did see the Luverne-Marshall game so I watched Chaz Smedsrud notch a hat trick and pick up an assist in Luverne's 7-0 spanking of Marshall. Smedsrud wasn't as fast and fearless as Koby Bender (Cloquet, another frosh I got to see in action), but he is smart, taking up good positions for shots. He also is composed on the puck, not rushing, and made some great passes.
Like I said, not enough time to update, but this 4-point game may have moved Smedsrud to the top of the frosh scoring chart.

Is anyone else curious to know birth years of these players? I know two, I know that Austen Long is a 97 And I know Chaz Smedsrud should be an 8th grader but chose to much up as a june of 98 birth date. I think it adds a certain context to know the ages could still be a year apart. But I might be alone in that.
I assume most are 97s?

For Little Falls, Thomas Miller is a 97, Mack Anez is a 98. Both are getting regular shifts for varsity.

I have seen only Smedsrud and Bender in person; I saw Swaney of Lakeville South on the telly. Bender is probably faster and more fearless than Smedsrud, but Smedsrud is a smart player and takes up excellent positions in the offensive zone. He will certainly be a star for Luverne over the next three years. People diss the southern teams, but for a frosh he is one of the better ones in the state IMHO.

Definitely 98 ... at least he played 98 in summer for years. Has gotten progressively better each year. Fun to watch

Teak,
Hows the Nielsen kid stack up to Bender and the Luverne kid?

Not as good. He'll do alright for Windom; plays on the second line; can scoot down the ice fairly quickly, but wasn't that involved in their offense. I saw maybe only one shot from him.

Saw Sp Lake Pk vs Cooper. Two very different teams, but both have freshmen leading scorers. Interesting to see SLP upperclassmen rally around their freshman and Cooper's upperclassmen go on line changes when their frosh got the puck.
