You have to excuse OG85. He does not get south of Hwy36 on 35W much. The only time he sees Mpls. is when he sees it on TV watching Twins or Vikings games.....

What has happened to Edina this year, the preaseason favarite doesnt look to strong right now. Can anyone explain to me what is going on?

the general consensus is there was no pre-season favorite this season. It was expected that PARITY would rule the Minnesota Bantam A season in 2011-12 and that's exactly what we are seeing.
Through the Top 20, anyone can beat anyone on any given day as the talent gap between 1 and 20 is insignificant.
No real surprises so far ...

with the possible exceptions of Rosemount and Prior Lake ... not sure either was expected to hang with the "big boys" , let alone "hang a licken" on the big boys

Actually, there is a very clear favorite right now. You cannot deny the Wayzata Trojans are the clear front runner. They are 8-1-1 with 48 goals for and only 19 goals against.
Further, they have played hands down the toughest schedule of any team in the State. There is only one soft spot on their schedule through 10 games this season and the rest of their schedule has the likes of Shattuck, Centennial, Duluth, Burnsville, Elk River, Minnetonka and WBL.
Only loss is to Shattuck and a very respectable 4-2 loss at that.
I think it's crystal clear - right now the best team in the State is Wayzata - everyone else is fighting for #2. IMO

Top two eledgible players are not on the team as they expect to make the varsity. Two other very good players are injured and standing behind the bench with helmets and jerseys and no ther gear. I think the loss of Walker and Malmquist is bigger than the two injuries are. One of the two injured is not due back till January at the earliest, not sure on the other one.
We'll never know if those four players would have made enough of a difference to get them up near Wayzata or not.

I am not from Edina but have seen them play enough over the years. To lose 2 players of the calibre of the ones mentioned would be a big loss for any team, even one from an association as deep as Edina. Certainly will be a different team without them.

didn't malmquist and walker have to move up to highschool this year?

Buttend- this is true, reason I was asking is D2 requires "permission" to leave the state w/your children.

Both maimquist and walker will have to play high school, they have been playing on Blades U16 team wich makes them ineligble for Bantams this year as far as i know.

Permission to leave the state with your team is a Mn Hockey rule and has been for a number of years. The District Director is the one to notify and ok the travel.

Obviously true - but others are in a similar boat - Wayzata and ER lost some pretty good players too. I would guess Edina will be okay. They have a very good player who should return in a couple weeks. They won the PWA state title two years ago and had two very strong PWB1 teams that year. They also have a strong group of 2nd years that played for the BB1 state title last year and lost to a strong OMG team. The first year kids won back to back titles at PWA. I have no skin in this game, but, as much as everyone likes to find a way to write the Hornets off, they are usually there in the end. The loss of key players hurts, but it allows others to step up.
