fan8..... You are to be commended for your spirit and enthusiasm, not only for your input on threads pertaining to WBL, but your overall input on this forum. You are a credit to the youth of America.

And by the way, you didn't get my message, because JR dragged me out, but the question you asked about if I approved of "certain chants"...... let me just say........ that those chants are as important as a plane hitting the landing strip!!!

Just got home from the Coliseum. I had to take a White Bear Lake friend out after for a couple beers to console him.

Congratulations to Bill Lechner and the Pioneers. This was a dominant performance tonight. Their D men, their checking forwards and Tim Shaughnessy were outstanding and gave WBL very few scoring chances all night. Shots were 36-23 but possession and puck control were more lopsided than that. Jack Walsh was the offensive leader with his two goals and hustle. HM was faster, stronger, passed better and played disciplined hockey all night.

As a long time Pioneer family and fan this never gets old. I love the State Tournament. Minnetonka is the clear favorite next week but don't count Hill-Murray out. Semi final night on Friday could feature a couple of really great matchups. The top 4 seeds should be Tonka, HM, Blaine & Edina.

Great effort by the pioneers tonight! They were really clicking tonight and I am excited to see how far they go this year. Could be something special.

Looked like Stillwater/Hill would have been a better game. Congrats Hill you find a way to get it done.

WBL was awful in all areas. It was a semi embarrasing performance, as they got beat to every lose puck. They are slow and Awful, just awful.

Congrats to the Pioneer players, coaches, students & families. The boys played well last and made a lot of us Alum proud. Also wanna say congrats to all of our youth hockey associations as you were the starting point for developing these young kids. Take pride in knowing you helped shape a player(s) who are living out a dream and celebrate their success.

As for the game last night, I commented to several people that beating White Bear Lake never gets old. I'll definately take a comfortable win versus the OT thillers..I'm too old for that stuff. I have to say that it's been a while that I have seen a WB team with so little skill. They have a couple of nice players but the rest struggle. Whether it's handeling the puck, understanding what to do/where to go, or basic skating. This is White Bear and these kids should be better developed....in my opinion. But they handled themselves well. It wasn't a chippy game & the kids did compete. Hill just had too much speed and appeared in control most of the game. Gotta give Schletty kudos. The kid played well & had he not, the game would have been running time.

So now that goal # 2 has been accomplished, time to focus & the final one. Congrats again & have a great time this week.

On a sad note, I wish to extend a sincere "Thank you, and get better fast" to senior Justin Hauswirth, who had to spend his final game as a WBL Bear in street clothes after being injured in the Stillwater game.

As even in the Stillwater thread, Youngblood thought there should have been a penalty called when Hauswirth was hit from behind.

When I heard Justin's name being called as a scratch, his dad was 5 feet from me talking to someone else. He then came up to me to tell me that Justin had the tendons and ligaments of three vertebrae in his neck almost completely torn apart, and on Monday, he will have a second opinion to see if surgery will be required.

Obviously, Mr. Hauswirth was upset, because he felt it wasn't a clean hit, but he said atleast Justin was still able to score the game-winning goal against the Ponies.

Justin wanted badly to play Friday night.... felt he was still able to play thru the pain, but the doctors refused to approve him to play for further risk.

Justin had been planning on playing college football, and after any type of neck injury, I sincerely hope that this injury is not career ending.

Injuries are part of hockey, whether purely accidental, via aggressive play, or intentional, and rather than dwell on "how" Justin's injury happened, I ask the the members of this forum that wish to comment on this to limit the comments to offering a "get well soon" and no bashing, please. Bashing won't change the result of the injury, nor the fact a penalty wasn't called - remember, two refs were on the ice.

Chalk this up as an unfortunate injury.

On the hit that was called for checking from behind the player hit never hit the boards he fell with the boards. Yet, Edwardo wanted the kid thrown in jail,, that case no need for the 5 and game. In Justin's case he had his back to the boards and when he was hit he fell landing with his head and neck on the boards and his back on the ice. I think if I remember there was 2 WBL players and 1 Stillwater kid on the puck right in front of the Penalty boxes when this happened.

Bottom line is the refs should have made calls like the late hit on Housley after the whistle and a few others on Stillwater to keep things in line from the start. Biggest thing is I DON"T BELIEVE EITHER WAS DONE TO INJURE ANYONE!

Not only was I fumbling for my keys after it was 3-0, I looked at the air ducts at the top of section 14 to see if that's where I would take my belt off and hang myself...

But because blood always wins, Goldfishdude JR came over and convinced me to leave after 2 periods and a 4-0 deficit.

We just had a thread created on this forum about the "sieve" chant being eliminated from Edina, and in that thread, I mentioned that my favorite is "the student sections using newspapers to cover faces and act not interested during the announcing of the opposing teams".... Hill-Murray started the chant.... "Where is Basil?" as in the former back-up H-M goalie who transferred to WBL... The WBL response was "With your mom."In all honesty. I cannot be mad at the play of WBL after two periods.

H-M is that much faster..... that more efficient.....has that much better defensive play...... They are in another echelon. I probably will be humming the H-M fight song all night..

I talked to some HM students after the game, and the "where is basil?" chant wasnt making fun of him... they all wish he was playing. Nobody is enterrtained by a blowout

As section final celebrations go, this one was strangely subdued.

When the final horn echoed through the cavernous State Fairgrounds Coliseum, Hill-Murray players followed all the traditional postgame rituals after thumping arch rival White Bear Lake 5-1 on Friday, March 5, for the Section 4AA championship and a return trip to the state tournament.

Yeah, the Pioneers emptied the bench. They rushed their goaltender. They formed a jubilant mob scene at the net.

And that was about it. There were no sticks and helmets and gloves wildly being flung toward the ceiling, no spiderlike climbs up the boards and glass, no smothering dog piles.

“All day long, I’ll take this,” Lechner said when asked to compare the surprisingly lopsided win over the Bears to last year’s double overtime sectional final triumph over Stillwater. “But it’s not quite as much fun because it’s a little more anticlimactic. So you can’t go out and hug the players and jump around. You won maybe with a few minutes left, so it’s a little calmer.

“But it’s a nice problem to have.”

Lex is BORED with beating WBL.......

Since I left after two periods, I did not know that the refs had to leave the ice before the start of the 3rd period to drag WBL back onto it....

I'm sure Lex is not bored with beating White Bear. It was pretty joyous over on the HM side and, I'm sure, on the HM bench. But there was no tension and it was much more subdued at the end. Compared to the 5-4 2OT, 3-1, 2-1 and 5-4 OT scores vs. the Bears the last 4 years at the Coliseum this felt very odd.

By the way - kudos to both schools' students. They were huge sections on both sides and they looked like they were having fun. I couldn't tell you if the chants were tasteless or not because it's impossible to understand what they're saying. So if nobody can understand it, it's hard to be offended.

Here's one of the coaching differences. I know on good authority that Lex worked about 30 minutes on how to exploit the WBL size on defense, and how to handle the pinching defensemen. I counted at least 6 odd-man rushes in the second period alone, which helped the 3-goal outburst.

Sager erred in judgement thinking the Bears could skate with H-M, because of the 4-3 game, not the earlier 5-0 game.... There should have been a better emphasis on backchecking, and neutral zone defense, standing the H-M players up at the blue line and to block/prevent shots... H-M had 25 shots after 2 periods, and it's playoff hockey... That shouldn't have happened if you're supposed to be a good team.

I was pretty down during the second period, but during intermission I decided there wasn't any point in being fussy!

It was a great time!

I'm just impressed they spelled it correctly. I also liked the "We will haze you sign". Classy.

Sager had no clue. They got slaughterd, and probably shouldnt have even showed up. #29 is beyond slow and way too small to be playing at this level. How did he get beat to that puck for the 3rd goal? That was embarrasing, with that small of a stature, you better be able to be the guy to the puck with speed with 2 steps on him. Sager had kid on the second set of D and pp's and penalty kills. Insanely awful coaching.
