This is the dumbest post I've seen yet regarding Saturdays game...what a shock that GR3343 says AMEN to it

Calling the Anoka team a bunch of Cake eaters from the Metro

And hey genius...they already came up North and shut-out the T-Hawks 3-0
on Jan 26th.

I think it will be a great game to watch...but no matter how many GR or Anoka supporters weigh in on this game...whether with insightful or dumb comments...it won't affect the outcome...nor will the number of fans that attend from either school...Anoka will have their share of fans...so will GR ...Anoka's players have a lot of "big game" experience (playing in the section 4AA Semi-finals and Final last year)...so do Grand Rapids players...good luck to both teams...it going to be exciting.
hockey59, if you think the semi's at the Coliseum compare to the semi's at the DECC, you are severly mistaken. I watched Anoka's upset win in the semi's last year. The atmosphere in the building was nothing like the DECC. You are lucky to be in 7AA and have the chance to experience intense section hockey. The players and fans of Anoka will feel very privileged on Saturday to be there instead of the Coliseum. It will be rocking.
I agree...playing at the DECC is a much better venue than the SF Coliseum...my point is that the more fans, the more exciting...no doubt...but anyone who has played the game (if even to the High School level) knows that once the puck drops, the players focus doesn't extend into the stands...and the crowd inspires each team...and what's better than sending a vocal crowd home on the short end of the scoreboard...other than celebrating with your teammates and fans after a win?

Maybe calling toivo's post the dumbest was a bit harsh...sorry Toivo...I'll just call it the silliest I've read so far... to label Anoka as cake-eaters from the south... maybe its mean't to be a a back-handed compliment by Toivo..but I doubt that

But here's a fact. that can't be denyed..Anoka, ER, Andover, Forest LaKe, Cambridge & St. Francis wouldn't be in 7AA if:

1) Duluth Marshall, Hermantown, Hibbing and Warroad weren't content to play for the single A title...when the true State Champion each year is the AA CHAMPION.

2) Duluth Central co-oped with Denfeld and they moved up to AA

3) Brainerd remained in 7AA

DE, Cloquet, Hibbing (throw in Eveleth if you need their numbers) combine Proctor with Hermantown, Duluth Marshall and Warroad simply opt up to AA...its where they should be anyway...Denfeld, GR,...that makes 8...if you need a 9th...add Brainerd...DONE

Then DE and Duluth Marshall could settle their differences on the ice rather than the keyboard...wouldn't that be something?:P :P :P :P :P

I'm glad I wasn't the one who had to spell it out and spark that particular flamefest, email rebuttals, and all the other crap which always accompany my stating what hockey59 just said in #1. Image

Back on topic; should be an outstanding game.

Anoka cakeeaters, I dont think so, Anoka is definitely a working class community. In fact, the people on the "range" I know dont even consider rapids a range community.....rapids has long been known as the "cake eaters"of the north! Go Twisters

I think the game will be a toss up. It could be one bounce that is the difference in the game. Rapids is going to have to come together and play as a team to win. People are counting Rapids out, because Rapids lost 3-0 th Anoka. But if I remember right, Rapids hit like 3 or 4 post when they played each other. I think Anoka is the favorite, but Rapids has upset many great teams in the last couple of years. I think Rapids could win though. At least i hope they do.

i dont think having both marshal and denfeld in the same section would be a very good idea because all it would do is create a inner city rivalry...but who knows maybe it would be fun to see

All right, who's calling Anoka cakeaters?

There is only ONE cakeater team in 7AA, thank you very much, and they're from the east side of Duluth.

As for the northern section argument...I'd say this is still a "northern section" until some team from the metro area represents it at state.

Karl...if you were a wee bit older...you'd know that Anoka has already represented a section (not sure that is was Section 7, (but it included Duluth East at State)..in the late 80's and early 90's..this was before the change to a 2 class tourney.

Growing up in Bovey, we always thought of Grand Rapids as a cake-eater school - lots of folks in the Greenway district still do and always will. The mere mention of Rapids in the same sentence with State Tourney is enough to set teeth gnashing from Pengilly to East LaPrairie. Thankfully, that still did not stop my family from solidly supporting the "Indians" whenever they traveled south to the Big Dance. That said, one could easily argue that Hermantown and CEC also belong in the cake-eater ilk with Rapids and East. For me, the cake-eater blah-blah goes out the window when North matches up against South.

There seems to be some subterfuge regarding Mr. Rendle on the Grand Rapids end. He is a key performer in this contest and if he is not at even 90%, the THawks will not be the same. LaRoque and staff will definitely be prepared in an underdog role, regardless. And somehow I sense Rapids will come together under the Halloween Machine colors enveloping the DECC.

Rapids 4, Anoka 3

Also, Hockey59 stated it beautifully in his post. There are some 7A schools that need to come to their senses and opt up. Enough with the hated interlopers from North Suburbia being forced into OUR section due to chicken s*** coaches and administrators from the Range and Duluth knuckling under. As much as I'd like to see Falls or Hibbing or Marshall take the Class A title, I'd much rather have true Northeastern MN representation during sectionals.

My comment was in regard to 7AA (and section 7 before the split), and since 1945, it has been represented by a non-northern team once (Elk River, 1999). Otherwise, the only teams to have won it are East, Greenway, Cloquet, Rapids, I-Falls, Hibbing, and Eveleth. I can't say for sure if East has been in it the entire time. I'd call that a northern section, but maybe I'm not understanding the point you're trying to make.

Anoka was in Section 2 in 85 and 90, when they went to the tourney.

I agree! I also think that all of the Duluth schools should be in class AA, as well as hermantown and marshall. In fact all private schools should be in class AA no matter what.
