I also have a problem with a gifted player that decides to play Bantam A for part of the season while fully intending to try out for a HS/JV team. If that player signs up for Bantams as a backup plan in case they might not make the HS/JV team, then they are not of the quality ready to make that jump, and the Bantam level is probably best for them anyway. If they are obviously of the quality to make a HS/JV team, then don't hurt your teammates and coaches by taking a spot away for part of a season and creating a domino effect for the players and coaches of the B levels.
So, it's okay for Housley's kid, though. This whole debacle started with Housley wanting the previous Bantam A Coach to pull the C from the kid going to Hill and give it to his kid. When the A Coach wouldn't do it, (bravo to him for having the integrity) Housley pulled his kid from the Bantam team and put him on his JV team, putting the Bantam team at a disadvantage partway through the season.
What about this years returning A players that attended their HS/JV Captain's practices and tryouts? A few of them made the HS/JV teams and left the Bantams. Your "2 cents" don't hold water. You're just preachin' a double standard.
What's missing here from the beginning is honesty. Housley and his new "A" Coach should have told the boys that if they plan on trying out for their HS team, don't bother trying out for the A team; if that's the way they felt, which is questionable in itself. Even 'gifted' players/goalies aren't so arrogant as to think they will make a HS team because they're excellent! No matter how gifted a player or his parents think he is, there is no guarnatee he will make a HS team.
As a side note: Would it help if Minnesota Hockey delayed bantam tryouts until the week after High School tryouts? What would be the positives and negatives to this approach? It would certainly help with the conflicts of those kids playing fall sports.
I believe they already do a statewide blackout of bantam games during H.S. tryout week so its not as though they are surprised that some bantams tryout.
Most associations do not schedule bantam games as the high school has a rule about players participating on a 2nd team during the same sport season. Almost all bantam try-outs have been finished for weeks.
Mn Hockey has a rule about players being on 2 USA Hockey rosters but the high school team do not register with USA hockey. A large number of small associations have been dealing with this problem for over 30 years. Was not a big problem then, why should it be now,if some one wants to try out fine if they make it then you might have to add to your roster.

Sorry he left right away not in the middle of the season. There is no rule about HS/bantam tryouts it has been happening for years. He never wanted him to give HIS kid the C patch, just someone that is attending Stillwater hs.
I said 'part way' through the season, not the middle. It doesn't matter who Housley wanted to have the C...the Bantam kids voted their A's and C's in not the coach. Housley didn't care about the kids or the Bantam team or he wouldn't have moved his kid and had the coach fired.

From the High school league: This is only a part. The whole section is 5 full pages. This deals with the same sport rules. At the end are the penalties.
14. NON-SCHOOL COMPETITION AND TRAINING FOR
TEAM AND INDIVIDUAL SPORTS —
A. During the High School Season: During the high school
season a student may not participate as a member of a
team or as an individual competitor in non-school sponsored
games, meets, tournaments or contests, in the same sport.
Participation defined: practice, training, tryouts,
scrimmaging and competing. Season Defined: The high
school season shall run from the first date that practice may
begin until the team is eliminated in MSHSL tournament
competition. Baseball, Softball and Skiing are exceptions to
this rule.[/color]
Exception: Non-School Training During the High School
Season for Athletes Who Qualify as Individual competitors
to the State Tournament: (Swimming, Cross Country,
Tennis, Skiing, Gymnastics, Wrestling, Synchronize
Swimming, Golf, and Track and Field)
Lessons/Training: During the MSHSL high school season
athletes may take lessons from professionals and other nonschool
coaches without limit as to where, when or who may
provide the training. Athletes may not miss a high school
practice, game, or meet to take a lesson or train for a nonschool
event. Athletes may not take lessons and or train with a
non-school team/club during the high school season in the
same sport.
Competition: Athletes will be able to compete in non-school
events/competitions that do not match the events in which
athletes currently compete in high school competition.
Exception: Summer Vacation Period — Students may
participate in non-school competitions, meets, games,
tournaments in the same sport they currently play at the high
school level during the summer vacation period. Summer
Vacation Defined: Summer vacation shall start on the
Saturday following the fourth Friday in May and end on Labor

extension to the summer waiver is granted by the school’s
athletic director.
Students may take private lessons during the MSHSL season.
D. Penalty:
1. First Violation: After confirmation of the first violation, the
student shall lose eligibility in that sport for the next two
(2) consecutive interscholastic contests or two (2) weeks of
that season, whichever is greater. If there are fewer than
two (2) events remaining in that sport, the loss of eligibility
will continue into the next season in that sport. Note: This
means that a senior who violates the bylaws at the end of
one sport season will lose eligibility for two (2) games in
the next sport season in which the student participates.
2. Second Violation: After confirmation of the second
violation, the student shall lose eligibility in that sport for
the next six (6) consecutive interscholastic contests or three
(3) weeks, whichever is greater.
3. Third Violation: After confirmation of the third or
subsequent violations, the student shall lose eligibility in
that sport for the next twelve (12) consecutive
interscholastic contests or four (4) weeks, whichever is
greater.
4. Consecutive Penalties: Penalties shall be consecutive
beginning with the student’s first participation in a League
activity and continuing through the student’s high school
career.
E. Special Considerations:
1. National Teams and Olympic Development Programs —
The MSHSL may permit participation by high school
students on bona fide national teams or in Olympic
development programs if:
a. The program is approved and supported by the national
governing body of the sport or if there is an Olympic
development program of training and competition.
b. Directly funded by a national governing body on a
national level.
c. Authorized by a national governing body for athletes
having potential for future national team participation.
Students who are invited to participate on National Teams or
in Olympic Development Programs must contact their high
school principal to obtain an application form. This must be
completed at least thirty (30) days prior to participation.
2. During the school year, students who participate for their
school in a sport may participate through training, try-out
or competition on a National Team or in a United States
Olympic Development Program provided the student
receives an individual invitation from the United States
Olympic Committee or the United States National
Governing Body on the national level for that sport.
3. Students who have completed their eligibility in a sport are
exempt from the non-school competition and training rules
in that sport.

I thought he was asst to the girls varsity...he was when he was elected VP of the Board...when the former Pres stepped down (after helping Housley get the 12 yr volunteer Bantam A Coach fired) the VP moved into the Pres position...he's better off with the girls; at least they win!

He has since moved to the boys team.(Falling out w/ Schied?) Not sure what came first, asst coaching job or presidency. Housley's got another man in place now.

Way to much information, greybeard! Has nothing to do with what happened in Stillwater....
