According to Forbes magazine, Carl Pohlad is worth 2.8 billion,......therefore, Neuts "conservatively" worth about 280,000 dollars.

With 2 outs and Carlos Beltran on 1st base, David Wright ended the bottom of the 5th with a lazy fly ball to left. After the commercial break the Met announcers laid into Beltran and showed the replay of him waltzing back to 1st instead of flying around the bags. Now that is good TV work, they pointed out something and were critical of a play that the viewer couldn't have seen.

When announcers became employed by the teams they announce they lost their leverage or backbone to be critical of the guys they sit next to on the plane or rub shoulders with in the hotel lobby.

At least the Met announcers can still call the game the way they see it and the production crew will re-rack the footage.

You bring up an interseting point and a major pet peeve of mine. Joe Senser left the Vikings radio team largely because he didn't think the new regime wasn't letting him give his analysis and he wasn't going to compromise his anaysis to suit the Vikings.

When pro sports teams hire their own broadcasters they then lose any objectivity and become little more than a PR firm. Take it a step farther and even the local beat writers for the Vikings and Twins rarely criticsize those teams, again they are de facto PR guys. Who turned the Gopher basketball program on it's arse? Not any of the local sports guys whom deal with the kids and the program everyday. Who got Barry Bonds? Not the beat writers from San Francisco.

The Vikings have fallen out of favor with me because I'm a radio guy, I don't take 3 hours out of a Sunday to watch most games, but I wll listen to most of them. The guy who does the Vikings games now is such a Homer and without Joe Sensers objectivity I don't think I'll be able to stomach their games anymore. Since moving to KSTP I can't get the Twins after sunset anymore so I really can't make a fair comment on whether the Twins taking over the broadscast has affected the objectivity of John Gordon and Dan Gladden, I hope not and from what little I can tell they are still very fair.

Some don't like Lou Nanne's style, but he isn't afraid to call a spade a spade. Doug Woog is a terrible Homer, but he will level fair criticism when he has too, same with Bert Blyleven.

Look no further than Bert's shaved head. I get it, Bert and Johan are part of the same fraternity, but the coziness between the two leads me to believe that Bert won't/can't fully analyze things the way they are happening on the field.

One night I just want to hear Bert say "Hey Dick, I'll let Jason Kubel wax my back if he doesn't go 4-3 tonight."

Enough of my complaining, great shutout Johan, if Bert wants to shave a different part of his body for every Twins' shutout I hope he is as streamlined as an Olympic swimmer by Sunday.

You can be envious of people,....or appreciate the good they may have done.

If Pohlad doesn't have his fortune from "foerclosing farms",....maybe the Twins are no longer in Minnesota for us to enjoy. On the other hand, maybe the Twins would now be owned by a farmer's Co-op,....about the same type investment as ethanol.

Also, did the "Great Depression" farmers have any responsibility? Aren't mortgage loans to be paid back? Evidently some of the farmers paid their loans,......there are still a few family farms.

P.S. For not having ever met the guy, Neut seems to know a lot about Knowlzee,......or is he just making it up? What is the topic again,....baseball (or football),....something like that?

It's back to the grind as the Twins return to town.

They're minus a slugger for a few games or so,
But the return of Joe Mauer has softened the blow.

Eighteen games with the NL was fun,
Like a summer vacation that was spent in the sun.

Of the five clubs that laid in their path,
Only D.C. came out ahead on the math.

Eleven were won and seven were lost,
And in the finale even Gardy got tossed.

The NL's were weak and the games were a blast,
Time to move on as it's now in the past.

So bring back the AL and pull up a chair,
Now a few over square as they continue The Tear.

Well, I'm back from a vacation of losing golf balls and fish and having fun anyway.

One thing to keep in mind about last year, I saw a graphic a couple of weeks ago that showed the Twins' comeback last year ranked up with 1951 New York Giants and 1978 Yankees in terms of the number of games they were out of first place during the year. I forget the exact numbers, but the Twins were like 15.5 games out at the end of May which was in the top five. Yes, they started their comeback earlier than the Yankees and Giants (and the other teams I'm forgetting) but one of the reasons last year was so exciting was the magnitude of the comeback. It doesn't happen very often.

This year's team seems to be a few players short of making a run even though they're only 6.5 games out right now. The injuries haven't helped, but every team is dealing with that. Indications are that Ryan will not be making any big moves, as I think it was packerboy put it, it will be frick and frack moves i.e. Boone, Batista, Ponson etc. This team needs a Shannon Stewart-type player, without whom it's likely they'll continue the slightly above .500 level baseball we've seen for most of the season.

Not much time to sit around and worry about those 11 singles last night as we are inside three hours to game time. I agree PB, the magic isn't there yet but neither is the poison. They just seem to be jogging in place right now.

I'm curious as to how many games Morneau, Mauer, and Hunter have all been in the lineup on the same day. With Morneau's week long absense and Joe's 30 games, it can't be much more than half. Cuddyer needs to start flexing the muscles a bit, his two chop singles last night aren't going to cut it, at least while 33 is on the bench.

They are only 6 games out.

They havent been at full strength all year with key people being injured.

The pitching has been good but not good enough for this team to...well, go on a tear, so to speak.

The loss of key players is obvious but I think it is important to mention Rondell. Even if he would just hit .270 with 8 or 9 HRs at this point, they would be a much better offensive team. Anything so I wouldnt have to watch Tyner and Ford try to hit.

If they can stay within reach, get everybody back and with the emergence of King Kong Kubel, they can make a run at it.

They are only 6 games out.
