When you are losing and the locals are seeing the best players leave the area for other schools, he is naturally going to feel the heat and start taking chances with local guys to pacify the critics.

I agree on both counts...I think both will be here through at least next year. The one early defector I would predict, for better or for worse, would be Michael Gergen.
From what I've seen of Gergen this year, he needs to stay. He's not ready. Come to think of it, I don't see anybody on this year's team who is.

Lee
I again agree with you 100%, that is what I was getting at with the "for better or worse" line. Gergen is NOT ready for the next level, but with the CBA the way it is I would not be surprised at all of he left following this season.

Probably would if I were he, also. Once you hear those cash registers a-ringin'. $$$$$$$$$$$$$

If it means a down year once every ten years, I guess that isn't such a bad deal. Except when you are in the middle of that year that is.

hard to believe stalok will still be around after this year, not really much exciting happening with the dogs, losing to bemidji! sandelin should be gone too , hjelly is about the only bright spot for UMD's future..
only one I can honestly say (and maybe connolly even tho so small)
is a good local recruit
i disagree, not too many goalies leave early, and have you looked at the wcha rankings and where UMD stands, i wouldnt say its bad, its actually pretty good for loosing niskanen and raymond. you cant expect the greatest game in the non-conference ones

Good morning -

Looks as if Luke McManus visited UMD on Jan 4th per a poster on this minnhock.com site. I got to see Luke play this past Tues in Burnsville.
I thought he was extremely impressive as he up against Barnes and Henrickson. CC is also in the mix as well it looks like. (maybe others?)

Bottom line - With Olson from Brainard commited, adding a player like Luke would really bolster a pretty good core of D already. I am hoping Luke decides to stay in his home state, close to home!!

A commitment from McManus would be another great recruit from the '08 class heading up to Duluth, but we'll see how it plays out.

I must add Connolly has been doing great in the USHL, as he was named offensive player of the week this past week (Leading the Stampede with 39 pts.)

I'd say UMD's future is fairly bright, assuming players stick around. Anybody who watched the series vs. Makato this weekend would probably agree with that statement. The all freshman fourth line was outstanding. At times they looked like the best line out on the ice. If those guys stick around and if some of the other incoming players are able to develope quickly UMD could be a darkhorse in the WCHA.

He just visited Providence last week some time. Apparently they have made him the best offer so far.

Hello and good afternoon,

Whatitdobaby - Thanks for the tidbit about his visit to Providence. Time will tell of course whether staying near home or receiving a better offer $$ wise on scholly will be weighted more heavily.

Like i mentioned before, I would rather have him play in the WCHA even it means him not being a Bulldog. Good player and i would hate to see him leave like Raiola from Tonka.

Keep us Dog fans updated. :)
Thanks,

If this is true, this is a great commitment for the Bulldogs. Let's hope JT Brown is to follow! :D

If you are wondering who is going to leave early I would put the most money on Garrison and Stalock. Garrison is a free agent and has had many scouts looking at him this year. He is 2nd in points in the WCHA for defensemen at last glance. As for Stalock, ready to go, maybe and maybe not but San Jose's goalie situation is horrible so they may want Stalock earlier than expected.

Hello all -

Great news!
Finally something to be happy about. It has been a terrible stretch of time to wait to see if anyone wants to be a Bulldog...now, a good player too :D :D

It is funny...recruiting has been pretty good for a team that looked like a JV team this past weekend vs the Gophs. Great job coaching staff and now go get some more players to turn this program around !

Good evening,

Just wanted to post a link that will confirm what we were talking about last night - Luke McManus to UMD for 09/10:

http://www.areavoices.com/rinkandrun/in ... blog=19751

Great pickup and I think he will really be a nice player in the future. I like his poise with the puck and his skating ability is excellent. :D

Good night!

Good pick up for the Bulldogs...McManus is a consistent and steady defenseman. A big reason why Rosemount is having the type of season they are having.

JT Brown situation

Good morning,

Anybody know that is close to the Rosemount team if JT actually did visit UMD over the past 10-14 days? The reason is that i have a friend of mine that says the he didn't see any recruits in town since the McManus visit early on in Jan. That seems odd that we are hearing conflicting stories... :?:

Bottom line- Not a big deal...just trying to guage UMD's interest in JT if he indeed didn't visit when people were speculating that he did. That's all. :)

Take care,
