Daunte needs a perfect pocket, or he will run. He never a slid to one side to buy a little time for recievers to get open. He doesn't "feel" the pressure at all IMO, thats why he fumbles so much.

He's talented, but has lost his mojo. The Vikings line when he got hurt, and Miami's last year were terrible. With a solid O line, Daunte can regain the confidence, and produce. But with a solid O line, even Trent Green can produce. Culpeppers current contract pays him $5.5 million this year, and is worth 51.5 million through 2013. Nobody is going to trade for that.

When they let Daunte go, I thought it was a mistake. His early success was obviously a result of having a lot of talent around him but he had skills and used them.

I think they let him go because the injury is a lot worse than was originally thought and he will never again be the player he was his first couple of seasons.

I don't think it was really a mistake at the time. It sounded like after Moss left, he became a pain in the ass in the lockerroom. When that happens, it's time to go.

If he's learned a little humility from his time in Miami, I wouldn't mind seeing him as a backup to Jackson. I'm willing to bet that he hasn't though... particularly if he can't find a starting job anywhere (and he won't). I don't think he's going to take to well to being a backup.

He is a long way form being able to accept a back up role and if he is healthy, he will start some where.

I don't see a team out there just willing to hand the reigns over to this guy at this point. He may find a situation where he may compete for a job (although even those options are few and far between in the NFL at this point), but he's cracked if he think anybody will just hand him a starting spot.

Because there are a lot of QBs in the NFL with much lesser a resume and skills as Duante's who started every week, including the guys the Vikings have.

Personally, I think with the lack of available opportunities in the league right now, and and his inconsistency from season to season, even if he's healthy, he's no longer an automatic starter.

I mean, where's he going to go? Who needs a starter? Detroit (maybe), Jacksonville (maybe), Buffalo (maybe), Minnesota (maybe)?

The usual suspects have already addressed the problem... Cleveland, Oakland, Arizona, Washington (maybe).

I honestly think that if he's going to start anywhere, he's going to have to sit tight and wait for somebody to get hurt because as it stands now, there's just not that big of a need. On the other hand, if he can accept the role of backup, not be a jackass and be willing to work with a younger quarterback, he may find himself as a starter at some point during the season.

I read something the other day from one of those goofball football writers somewhere (so take this for what you will), where it was said in a poll of a handful of NFL GMs, half of them would try to lure Drew Bledsoe out of retirement if they needed a QB before going to Daunte.

I agree with packerboy. His knee injury ended up being real bad. If he can work himself back into playing shape again, he is capable of being a solid starter in this league. He just needs to be patient, stay in shape, and an opportunity will present itself.

Nobody would have guessed 2 years ago that he would be in this spot now.

I thought he would be the Viks guy till he was 35 years old.

I am not saying he is perfect, but he definately had a run of bad luck.

Then again, I wanted Hunter bunting about 50 RBI's ago.

Who is going to be the Viking's starting QB in week one?
