I watched the West/Faribault game, WOW, hack and whack. High hits, hits from behind, 3 or 4 hits way after play had stopped. I hadn't watched too many Big 9 games this year, are they all like this? Maybe 3 or 4 players on the ice that could play at the next level.
I went to watch Pavik, I guess I should have showen up earler

JV starts at 5:30?
West
11-Livermman has a decent skill set, needs to hit the weights. Also he is lacking in overall team play. Lots of bad habits, nothing that would deter a team from looking at him.
14-Litchfield was solid but seemed to lack direction. I didn't see any forcheck being run and he took a bit of time to react to the play. He could blossom into a player at the next level with some work.
7-Anderson was quick and smooth, I don't think there is such a thing as too small but he played pretty small, even for a small guy. Good talent, needs to play with more fire, more of a sparkplug guy if he want's to play on past High School.
9-Deopere showed flashes of good vision, and a solid skill set. Needs work to be successful at the next level.
Faribault
8-Helgeson was and is a man among boys. Skill, skating, size, vision, shot, the total package! He made pass after pass that was picked off, to a casual observer if was his fault. When you look at the plays the forwards were/are cutting behind everyone looking for the homerun pass, any forward worth a salt would find the lane and make that break and find the passing lane so the puck
can get through.
20-Trahan has some talent but he ran his mouth to everyone all game, refs, other players, his players. Doesn't see the ice very well, and tends to play at about 70% unless he thinks he might score. Good touch around the net.
35-North is Ginormus! Moved OK, needs to control rebounds better, the second goal was all unnessary rebound(3-1 and the West player shot the puck from just outside the top of the circles, had he controled that shot it's a different game.
Thats what I saw anyway, a few other kids stuck out a little but these were the ones I had the most notes on.
Anyone agree or disagree with the assements?[/quote]

Pretty good assesments. I only one I disagree with is the Deopere. He is a good fore checker and defensive forward. But lacks the ability to put the puck in the net and doesn't see the ice very well. I love his intensity though plays the game hard

what were shots of the NU SCC game

One more thing, "Anderson needs to play with more fire" that is obsurd! That kid plays as hard as he possibly can every game. I don't think I have ever seen him take a shift off. If you have any little kids that want to be hockey players you tell them to watch #7 on Mankato West. Another great example of hustle players are Mark Walton from AL and pretty much the whole Marshall team. I was very impressed with their hustle and determination. I very fun team to watch! I can't wait to see them and AL, should be a great match-up!
Eaglescout: What were the shots on goal in that NU vs. SCC game? How do you think they will fair against a very good team that is Orono? Another question who are the players to watch for in New Ulm?

No, they are not all like that, but my guess is that most Faribault games are that way. They have been cheap and have run their mouths a ton since they got the new coach a few years ago.

something else to think about west lost to jm and mayo which AL swept them both and helgeson didnt play rite cuz US 17 and under team and pavek played JV so thats like sayin Austin beat west tonight but west didnt have litch, anderson,leivermen,trembley....thats about equal to helgeson and pavek not being there make for west to have a little advantage... rite?
yes albert lea did beat both teams and west lost to both but were very very close games... jm tied the game wtih less than a second which was a very controversial call and mayo they lost with 2 min left or so. al lost to faribault twice by 2 or more i believe and how would playing for the us 17/under team not make helgeson play right? wouldnt that make him better? good job by west's D to shut him out and if pavak didnt make that big of a difference against west's jv team he pry wouldnt do much against the varsity team. hes a good player don't get me wrong but he only led the jv team to a 4-2 eng win. either way i think both AL and West ended the season on somewhat positive notes. good luck to all teams

I guess I should have said Anderson didn't hit anyone but the back up goalie during the warmup lap before the second.
J/K....but
He plays hard, but he just isn't involved enough for me, I like my little guys to be fast and furious.
New Ulm VS SCC

LetsPlayHockey,
Shots for the game were SCC 32 - New Ulm 21. Both SCC goals came
on Power Plays. New Ulm looked real good last night, probably the best game they have had this season. New Ulm's strength right now is there defense and Goaltending. They do not give up alot of goals. But we don't score many either. If they could have stayed out of the penalty box last night we win the game. New Ulm was up 1-0 with 6:45 to go in the game. Reffing was the worst I have seen it this year. They were bad for both teams so I am not making excuses. As far as Orono goes today I think we can hang with them IF WE STAY OUT OF THE BOX.

EaglesFan the best of luck to ya. That's what is sounds like with your New Ulm team, if they are going to win big games they need to stay out of the box and play 5 on 5 hockey. Another question I had is who are the kids to watch for when watching your New Ulm squad? Klein I have heard is one of them but who else? You guys must have a pretty good goalie what is his name?

LetsPlayHockey,
On offensive Brad Clyne (Sr), Jordan Trullinger (Sr) Wade French (Jr) Kyle Reinarts (So). Defense Beau Burgau (So) and Cody Kohn (So). Our goalie is Adam Buegler (Sr). He has played all year in the nets for us. Jordan has had 20 plus goals each of the last two years, not sure where he is this year but I know he has not been able to bury the puck as well this year. Wade French is our first line center. Big, strong kid moves the puck well good stick handling probably our overall best player. Clyne is a fast player with good moves. Reinarts is our best Sophmore player on offensive has all around good skills. Kohn and Burgau moved up to High School last year as freshmans and started on defense. I think that really benefited them because this year they are solid players. This team will give anybody a run at sections if they stay 5 on 5.

Albert Lea lost to Faribault 6-4 (eng) and 4-3.
What's the point here, that because west beat Faribault they should be the #1 seed?
Seeding doesn't make one bit of difference in the grand scheme of things. Just see last years tourney with Marshall beating Albert lea.

Beat Mpls. East Saturday afternoon 6-1. Ivers in net. Mellenthin (2) Krogen (2) Peterson and Byrnes with the goals.
Host the Austin/SE winner Thursday night.

I think that ilovelife23 is trying to say that AL vs MW were to meet in sections (the final) that it would be a good game. bigbabyblue gave us his thoughts as to why AL is the better team and i think ilovelife23 was just giving his two cents as to who the better team is.
Could be wrong.

Whoever cares the most will win, simple as that. You can tell when a team just wants the season to end. The teams that are playin for the big show and really believe they have a chance could upset anyone. Cant come in thinking it will be a breeze. AL learned that last year agaisnt Marshall.

The team that will go to state is the team who's best players come to play if it happens that AL and MW are in the section final game

New Ulm gets pounded 6-0 tonight by Orono. Shots favored orono heavily i think 39-14 with new ulm getting only 2 shots in the second im pretty sure.

Yes NU gets pounded by Orono. Last I checked Orono was ranked LPH 6th, SCC was 10th. Do you get better by pounding bad teams or getting pounded by good teams? There isn't a team in 1a as good as any team in single a top 20. 5 of NU's 9 losses have come against those top 20 LPH teams. Whoever gets out of this section will get pounded in state. Seems like Fairbault is a measuring stick for some teams, I don't know if they have been seeded but I know that NP and Orono will be seeded higher than them. 1A is very weak!

The top four in 1A are very even. Luverne, Waseca, Windom or Austin could even sneak in a surprise win. Sounds like a great 1A playoff to me. With a hot goalie and 110% effort 1A does NOT need to get pounded in State. With eaglescouto6 attitude his team need not represent 1A in St Paul.

eaglescout. not every single 1a team will get pounded by teams in the top 20. albert lea lost to century (who was i believe top 10 in AA) by two goals... one empty net. also west lost to them but was winning at two different times by two goals. west has beaten detroit lakes, fergus falls, northfield and faribault who were all ranked in the top 20 at some point this year. and albert lea has beaten west who was also in the top 20 at one point this year. and new ulm did keep up with scc as you know already. i think the team that comes out of 1a can maybe do something in state... only time will tell

Eaglescout, I do not believe anyone intended to rag on you for getting "pounded". Although now its a different story with your very quick attack. The word was simply used because it was the truth, no denying it. You are not the only one who knows that Orono is ranked high.
