Forest Lake going up to Rapids with some momentum as they finish off the season 2nd place in the SEC and winning their final four games. Should be a good one on Tuesday night.

I love when people complain about having to play at Amsoil. I could understand the argument a bit when East used to play their home games at the DECC and the 7AA semis and Finals were played there as well. But now, East plays 0 games a year at Amsoil and the venue is up there with the best in the nation, so why wouldn't they play them there? I'm sure besides the whole travel issue, the kids love playing in the arena.

Well, despite the fact that the Hounds don't play at Amsoil, it's hard to argue that they wouldn't have the home crowd advantage with the much shorter travel to the game--if they make it that far.

However, homer refs? I haven't paid close attention the last year or two, but traditionally the officials for the 7AA championship game have come from the Twin Cities.

I've got a bad feeling about the Section 7AA tournament.

East 5, St. Francis 1
Elk River 7, Cloquet 0
Andover 6, St. Michael-Albertville 2
Forest Lake 4, Grand Rapids 1

Forest Lake 3, East 2 (2 OT)
Elk River 4, Andover 2

Elk River 6, Forest Lake 1.

Would like to see an East-Rapids semi-final, so here's hoping I'm way off in my predictions.

The conclusion I've come to regarding the site of the section semi's and finals is that it will remain in Duluth. Section 7 is run administratively by northern AD's and they will not move it to another section area like St. Cloud as they are in the region 8 area. The most important factor is that all region sports are run by the region secretary and are funded by proceeds from the gate. There is also TV money involved and with the wide range of geographies in region 7 they rely on the revenue sports to stay ahead. It benefits them when a local teams can provide a bigger crowd. I hope this isn't a factor in seeding thoughts but an all south final would not be beneficial. Hockey is the main source of income.

They should move the 7AA semi-finals and finals to the metro area the same year they move the State tournament to Duluth. Both moves would neutralize home ice advantage for East in the Section 7AA tournament and the metro teams advantage in the State tournament.

I think you are right on these two picks.

Elks 3 - East 1 in final Berglove + a little more scoring depth than East.

Got a chuckle on this one. Heck, just put East on a bus for a ride to Floodwood and back before each section game. That would eliminate part of the advantage anyways! haha

Would much prefer Amsoil over sending this down to 612.

Anyone who is complaining about home ice advantage must not of been to the 2011 and 2013 section final for 7AA. The place was roaring with Grand Rapids fans. It all comes down to your fan base. Amsoil is a great place for sections i'm sure not too many kids complain about playing in such a great facility

Not even a comparison. Saying the Venue in St. Paul is home advantage for the Metro teams is a joke. Playing in that arena gives every team the shivers. Not to mention the fact anybody south of Hinckley is a metro team to you Eskimos. The crowd, the pageant, the cameras, the other circumstances of the state tournament puts every team at the same disadvantage. None of the kids know the announcers, the arena employees, the facility layout etc. Way different than going to Duluth where the kids play there all of the time via tournaments, practices etc. The people that work the playoffs are all friends, relatives and they all know each other. Small advantage but yet an advantage. It is much easier to put a fan base together for a Thursday night in your home town for a final play off game than it is to drive from the "metro" not to mention our teams are on the bus for 2-21/2 hours to get there. At the state tourney all of the kids stay near the arena. It is much more of an advantage for these playoff games and any of you Jack Pine Savages that deny that have been sniffing to many chain saw fumes. The playoffs should rotate venues to be fair plain and simple. My references to the North lifestyle are tongue in cheek I'm sure many of you are way more refined than I am.

Well, some of us, being more "refined" is the reason this Non-Duluth native would like to keep the section playoffs in the glitzy Amsoil Arena and not have to walk out side on a -10 day to get there (skyway system)

I agree I have never been a big fan of the down town playoffs. I wouldn't pick it. Believe it or not when you say metro kids most only go down there when they score the occasional ticket to a Wild Game. Too bad there are only a few facilities that can handle the crowds we send to the tourney. However we don't need the giant venue for the sectionals. Still stand by rotating venues

How about this-

East had been to state the last FIVE years. Once someone knocks them off, we can talk about a different arena.

As far as I know they've earned the right.

Come on Slammer...I am willing to bet that the same two refs from last years final will not be wearing the stripes this year. BOTH DULUTH RESIDENTS WITH ATLEAST ONE BEING AN EAST GRAD! No wonder they didn't see Toscano steam roll Peterson from behind. Pretty sure 7AA Executive Secretary won't make that mistake again.

Could be the same guys that give "your last warning" to the Hounds and penalties to the visitors?

"Neutral" site my butt. The Hounds book a lot of February practice ice at Amsoil. AD's don't care...just follow the money!

Once everyone realizes that all refs suck, some just more than others, people will complain less. Those guys missed a really bad one that day.

East was the best team in the section for the past five years. It wouldn't have mattered where they played.
