It's pretty simple after last night with STMA beating Cloquet. ER, GR, DE, STMA, Cloq, Andover, FL and St. F

STMA has a good record but soft schedule, GR get 2 because of win vs East and east gets 3 because of narrow win vs STMA and loss vs GR. Give one good reason East should be 2 or STMA should be a higher seed.

Not that I entirely disagree or anything...but nothing is "pretty simple" in the 7AA seeding meeting, ever.

Unless it's changed, each team submits a seeding and the result is put on the board, then each time has a chance to argue its position, then it's a re-vote. The re-vote is the final seeding.

Once upon a time, in a place up the interstate
A rendezvous planned, sure to be a great checkmate
Great hockey minds guessed…who will it be?
Duluth East or Grand Rapids at seed 2 or seed 3?
Storied and rich are the hound and the hawk
Gordie Roberts sits quietly, #1 is a lock

Randolph the Great, fan appointed Head of State,
IS sure to exert his mighty will upon the other 8
But will it be enough, to convince them of Hounds worth
Of knocking the Knights from their perceived higher berth

Cries of outrage ensue as the Knights make their case
We deserve to be higher, we deserve the 3rd place
The Kings share a glance, SOS matters as everyone knows
For that is what counts when seeds are bestowed

The peasants wait anxiously for the final decision
Agendas are set and they all have a vision
Of having the King that gets their team the best chance
To knock off the Elks and go to the Dance

#4 seed is a good spot for some STMA fans :D

Having a home playoff game that wasn't the play in game is a start right.

Well this is all fun to contemplate, but it will be nice to move on to the criticisms of the outcomes of the seeding process.

I quit looking at ER-GR-DE-STMA and looked at the section results for CEC-FL-And. That obfuscated things even more. But, one thing did come crystal clear: props to Andover for their Section 7AA schedule! They played Elk River, Grand Rapids, Duluth-East, STMA, CEC, and Forest Lake! That helps establish context for each team.

27 pages of shuffling 3 to 4 bracket seeds over about a 4 month period. How much anxiety do you guys have awaiting the actual #'s, just days away.

While I think STMA is the 4th best team in the section and think they should get the 4 seed, I have a feeling they are going to wind up with the 3 seed. Since the coaches vote based on matchups, you would think the #2, #6, and #7 would vote STMA as the three seed as they would rather play STMA than Duluth East. At the same time, #1 and #5 would vote Duluth East as the 3 seed. However, St. Francis and Cambridge could vote STMA as 3 since there's no way they make it the semis. Even if they thought they had a chance to, they both got smoked by STMA during the regular season and would rather not face them again. They are also in the same conference as STMA and may be more willing to vote for STMA. That would give STMA 5 votes for the three seed but then again this is all speculation.

Everyone seems to have Cloquet a lock at the 5 seed, but they only had one section win (not counted C/I and St.F) against Grand Rapids who they also lost too. I think 5 is too high for them. They tied Andover and lost to Forest Lake in OT. Andover smoked Forest Lake and also tied East. I think that's enough for them to be #5.

Predictions:
#1 Elk River
#2 Grand Rapids
#3 St. Michael-Albertville (think coaches will vote them 3 based on matchups, should be 4 IMO)
#4 Duluth East
#5 Andover
#6 Cloquet/Esko/Carlton
#7 Forest Lake
#8 St. Francis
#9 Cambridge/ Isanti

I could see this as a possibility. Would Rapids rather play East or STMA in the semi's? Same thing goes for Elk River. Both teams kind of know what they are getting with East and their history speaks for itself. STMA is a newcomer and unknown to Rapids and Elk River. If you asked me any year I would not want to play East. Maybe Elk River wants to avenge their final loss last year by getting that opportunity in the semi's.

Of course this is all hinging on all the top seeds beating their quarterfinal opponents...

Hey insider:

A real insider would have infiltrated Toby's earlier in the season and set up hidden lipstick cameras and microphones for the world to see.

They follow the bracket as established, no matter who beats who.

http://mshsl.org/mshsl/showbrackets.asp?tournid=452

So when Rapids loses to Flake in the first round, East will play the Flakes in the semis. :P
