Especially now that Elk River needs to play Cloquet in the first game. It is now setup for an East vs. Cloquet/GR final.
Not so fast kniven. Forest Lake will be more than a handful. I do believe the Elks have something to prove as well. I am picking Elks at X in 2014.
Think they are the "above the rest" in a very wide open 7AA section. oldgoalie - DJ rants.....priceless!
Yes your right! I'm just an eternal optimist when it comes to my Lumberjacks..

Say what you want but shows the influence Coach Randolph has. Not only does East get the 1 seed but they push Cloquet to the 7 giving the Jacks the QF game against ER. Gotta believe East feels better about the idea of playing Rapids possibly again in the semis instead of Cloquet.

Don't want to say "I told you so" but Randolph defenitley has power there and obviously made a good argument.

I'm pretty excited right now :D

So let me get this straight, when it came down to ER and East at 1, ER doesn't get the nod even though they beat East, but when it comes to STMA and Cloquet (a team that beat East), STMA DOES get the nod. Seems strange.

How convenient East dodged Cloquet in the Quarters.

This is where I don't understand why the other coaches didn't stick it to east, could of eliminated them in round one, would have been the best hockey season ever!

This has to be one of the dumbest statements. Do you really think the coaches voting would rank the teams on the the coach? Each coach is going to rank the teams on who they feel is the best. Ranking for personal gain would be obvious by your peers and you would loose all credebility.

Wish Sarsland was still coaching, I'd would sure like to get his comments. Elk River has certainly drawn the toughest path to State. Cloquet is easily the most dangerous 7 seed in the state. Then conference rival Andover. Ouch.

8 vs 9 in the playin game. Winner plays at 1 in the quarterfinals
7 at 2, 6 at 3, 5 at 4 in the other quarterfinals.

Winner of 1 vs 8/9 plays winner of 4/5 in one semi
Winner of 2 vs 7 plays the winner of 3 vs 6 in the other semi

Definitely!! Too bad the great rivalry game isn't lined up, really have to think Randolph did everything to avoid Cloquet. I'm ok with the seeds except I think ER got hosed and CEC maybe. ER is really going to feel hosed when (if) they get to the finals with the East refs!

Sad thing is East (#1!!) was the only top 20 AA team that lost to Cloquet (a team that also got beat by a few A teams) Dont think Elks will have a problem with Cloquet but Andover in the Semis will be tough.

Good luck to East at #1. You got a lot to prove...

Interesting. I was expecting Elk River at #1, but I'm not stunned to see it go the other way. Guess the Hounds are the champ until someone knocks them off.

I'm not really buying the "woe is Elk River" stuff, though. I guess this is some bulletin board material for Cloquet, but I think they were only an upset threat to East and Rapids. They didn't play Elky this year, but they did play Andover and Flake, and both beat them handily. Without the rivalry factor, I don't think they're much more than a slightly above average 7-seed. I still think they should've had the 6 on the strength of the East win, but they have twice as many losses as wins for a reason.

Otherwise, I think they got 3-5 right, and the top 3 will have to win two tough games to get to State; the 4-5 seeds will have to win 3 tough ones. Rapids-Flake should be a fun quarterfinal, and even though East beat both by comfortable margins, neither one is a safe win.

Now we get to read all the East haters explain how Randolph is able to manipulate 8 other grown men - all with their own agendas, all with years of hockey experience, all with little desire to see East once again have the easiest path to a section title - into doing exactly what they don't want to do. Some of the best reading of the year has commenced.

Not a big conspiracy theory guy but It sure looks like ER got screwed. It is most likely not East doing the work here, more like another coach had ER ranked lower than 1 or 2. Any thoughts? ER should have no problem with Cloquet but They probably wanted to avoid Andover in the semis. They have defeated the Huskies in 4 of the last 5 meetings, including the first round last year. With GR having ER's number the last two years they possibly avoid Shepard. Looks like a ER-East final, with Randolph having the last line change.
