Gordie's last minute complete juggling of the 2nd line has worked the last two games (Anoka/Centennial). Probably still doesn't make up for Zerban, but at least gets some speed and some offense back on the particular line.
Well east wins against tonka 4-2 and ER beats Anoka 4-1..... It was the last games before the discussion tomorrow..... Nothing changes really for the seeding for those two. Id say it's 50-50 who gets the number one seed.sanryam wrote:Elk River 4

I would agree to that greenway1969. Sounded like they had their full roster of players last night and at one point I believe they were being out shot 32 to 18 according to the radio guy. Denfeld is no slouch team from the sounds of it and will be dangerous team in 7A but you are correct Rapids is an average AA team. I agree with all the remarks above based on what I have seen. Question for you and yup, I played alot of hockey in my past....what is it that makes a team so consistently give up so many shots on goal? Grand Rapids has done that all season long. Is it inability to advance the puck out of the defensive zone? Is it failure to sustain a forecheck? Or is its just getting beat to loose pucks and getting outworked? Rapids better figure out some answers or they are going to have an early end to their playoffs. Curious what others think.northwoods oldtimer wrote:I would agree to that greenway1969. Their inconsistency has a lot to do with their youth, especially at D. They were giving up a lot of shots early in the year too and started out 10-3. I think for their young D they just don't seem to always make the best decisions. The Hermantown game it sounded like they made good first passes in their own zone plus they charged the net hard and the D were taking low shots from the point which they weren't doing well during their 3 game losing stretch. Part of the reason they lost to Denfeld was they didn't play to the end, were up 3-2 with 20 seconds left. Not sure what to think of this team. I wonder if they were looking past Denfeld to the quarterfinals, wouldn't surprise me given their youth. It will be a learning lesson for them that you can't lose a game like this right before the section meeting. Even John Rothstein said on the radio during 2nd intermission his squad will play a great game and come back the next night and wonder what happened to them. Anything can happen in sections, could go out next Tuesday or be in the section finals. Not sure I would put FLAKE at #3, even with a good win over WBL last night. However, it was great timing for them as it will be fresh in the minds of the coaches. I just don't think they play anybody outside of 7AA besides WBL and CDH twice each. I wouldn't bat an eye at it though if they did receive the #3 seed with their h2h win over Andover. Honestly, this has been the hardest year in memory to figure out the seeds leading up to the meeting. Generally there is a very clear picture of where teams will be. This year it could be any number of combinations for seeds #1-#7. I would say youth and inexperience, size and lack of hitting the weight room are the combining factors. A lot of that comes with age. Cannot recall Rapids having to go with such a young and inexperienced group as they have this season, ever. They seem to always have 3 senior D (minimum) to rely on with 2-3 Juniors. I think the toughest transition (and biggest amateur jump) for any defense-man is from bantam to high school. Expect to see better results next season.
