Curious for those in the know on the college side of things.. with a lot of new recruits committing to University of St. Thomas, some or many as soon as next season, what happens to the existing D3 players? SOL? Chance to “try out” or play their way onto the team?
They can transfer to another D-III school without penalty if they choose not to stay. In essence, the school has discontinued the D-III program in the eyes of the NCAA.

Not exactly a shocker there given his dad’s history as a Bulldog and the pipeline of Hermantown players there.

Any thoughts on who will be the next rising junior to commit? My guess is Shaugabay to North Dakota.

Jess Myers on Twitter posted a pick of Shaugabay's IG account and it says "Bulldog Commit" in the description. Not sure if that's how kids announce today or not.

His family has put it on FB too. Big get for UMD. He was set on following Oshie and Nelson to UND when he was younger.

Kobe Roth being on UMD, along with the overall team success and track record of NHL players had to be strong selling points. The Bulldogs are pulling star recruits that they typically wouldn’t be in the mix for a decade back.
Ty Hanson of Hermantown will almost certainly be committing to UMD as well, given that his dad played there.

Should we just change the thread title to UMD Bulldog recruiting?
That Hermantown pipeline continues to pay dividends.
Congrats to Ty and his family. I had a bit of inside info on that one since one of my close friends was college roommates with Greg Hanson. Greg was more like a big boat Buick on the ice, while Ty is a Ferrari. I would anticipate Ty to sprout a few more inches, though.

IMO the Brett Larson’s UMD impact is undeniable. A HUGE surge in W-L success and a championship in his few years in the early 2010’s and then the next huge surge when he came back many years later. His impact is still being felt with the recruits still able to be around from COVID and others clamoring for the success...
Then he brings SCSU to the championship game in only a couple years..?..
Outstanding hockey mind/coach and an even better human!!
