Now 10-7, Edina embarrassingly sloppy on D tonight & a rough
Game for their goalie. 5 minutes to go!

Entertaining game to watch. Lots of skill on the ice in that one.

10-7 Edina is the Final Score. Vorlicky is right up there with B & B. Nevers is a skilled, smart player. Kozm. is really fast & skilled, but not very tall. Despite the score after 2 periods, a much improved game (from last Sat) by the Elks, Hornets just too explosive.

You are free to call it what you want. An 11-0 loss and outshot 60-7 is an indicator of an extremely bad hockey product based on programs yearly hockey expectations.
I noticed you didn't post in this thread or the Greenway thread. Just making sure you're okay. :)

I'm not sure how to describe the Edina/ER game. Bizarre? Sloppy? Entertaining? Maybe all three. It was not the best defensive or goaltending performance by either squad, which made it hard for me to watch. Exhausting to live tweet as well with all the back and forth. Yet, the game was entertaining from the standpoint that the game felt oddly up for grabs even going into the third period with all the scoring.

It feels like games are trending towards high scoring. Don't know if goaltending/defense is becoming a lost art at the high school level.

Edina gave up too many goals. Still, after the first period I thought it was obvious they'd get to 10 and when it was 5-5 it didn't seem in doubt. Offensively they were on tonight.

Credit to Elk River for some nice tips and making the most of the scoring chances they had. Hornets are certainly susceptible to an off night, but good grief they are a tough matchup. Early in the season still, but one observation is that a lot of goals are coming when the coach goes a little deeper on the line chart. Backup goalie, fourth forward line, 3rd set of D. If they can't figure it out my guess is late in the season it gets cleaned up with a tighter rotation.

For those not in attendance, Edina pulled away with 3 goals in about a minute at the close of the second taking the margin to 9-5. Then in the first minute of the third Walker tallied his 5th goal of the game. Ended 10-7 as Elk River scored two goals to narrow the margin.

its a shame DE & Edina don’t play this year in the regular season. I thought ER played well, significantly better than last Saturday when I witnessed them lose to the Cougars...yet Edina still DOMINATED puck possession and led 10-5 one minute into the 3rd period. If Sammy Walker doesn’t win Mr. Hockey this year...then I don’t know who will, he turned ER’s top D pair like a doorknob on his 5th goal, then crashed into the boards hard. Walker Returned mid-third period, think he had an equipment issue with his helmet, and appeared OK.

Oldtimer, So the prunes didn't work? Or was that what you meant by the ****show when you sat down? If so, your welcome. If not, you need to add whole grains, and lay off the venison sausage from that spike poached off the salt lick.

Back to hockey from the concerns of Oldtimer's PCA. We will see if the T-hawks have a pulse tonight against ER. So far, it looks pretty bleak.

The trend I see is teams utilizing defensemen in transition a lot more. We see fewer "stay at home" solid defensemen as coaches are looking for more aggressive skaters going the other way. This results in more offensive efficiency, but also in more odd man rushes going the other way.

Also, not sure if teams are getting much stronger on the forecheck, or if breakouts are suffering from defensemen who are fixated on skating out of the defensive zone? Either way, it seems like there are far more turnovers in the defensive zone.

No shutout, Elks have found their legs up 4-1 in the 2nd.

It was nice to have a lead for one period. GR doesn't sustain anywhere near enough offense to hang with top level teams though. Clafton is doing a nice job again tonight.

Why hasn't Holum played the last 2 games?

I was wondering that myself. I wasn't overly surprised he wasn't in last night but was a little bit that he wasn't in tonight. I do feel that the sophmore Clafton did a nice job for the Rapids though. I assume he is related to Dan (Chocolate) Clafton. Backstopper for the Halloween Machine in the mid 70's.

I agree Al. I think it is likely that the final game of the year is going to be Edina and someone else. Good chance it will be the winner of 7AA. IMHO.

I know they could really use him. He is a real firecracker. Hope he is back soon.

Holum heading to JR's is my guess. After his coach and teammates left can't believe it's much fun. I could be wrong though. Just my hunch

I thought the 3rd period of Edina and EP was a disgrace of HS hockey due to the combination of dirty hits by EP, lengthy arguments between coaches and officials, in running time mind you, officials not administering penalties swiftly, and end of penalty time administration errors with the confusion of running time and all the other chaos going on the ice. This all added fuel to the fire of allowing the game to get out of control. Coaches had a verbal argument at center ice in the handshake line, which I believe was in regards to some of the hits during the period. Perhaps it’s just the emotion of a rivalry game, or as my wife called it, “rich people problems”, while describing tonight’s game to her afterwards. MSHSL may want to consider hiring NHL officials for the second meeting. Bulletin board material for both sides already in place.
