There is often a significant mismatch between the #1 and the team that would be #8. I don't think TV wants a 7-1 game during prime time. Obviously this wouldn't prove true every year, but it would happen often enough. And it's difficult to overestimate the influence of TV on sports, even high school sports.

I think it was in 1998 a very mediocre Owatonna was handled very easily by a good but not great Jefferson. It was a difficult game for all involved. I think Owatonna got just a few shots on goal the whole game. I think the specter of a game like that every year spooked TX execs.

Separately, I don't recall that the first year the Let's Play Hockey ratings were accepted. My thought is that it has always been done by the coaches.

With all this random draw conspiracy - I've got a feeling DE won't pull the Lakeville South seed (or Roseville if the knock off Hill). They won't get BSM (should MG win) but in order to keep the illusion of random draw, I think they pull Moorhead (or the 6 or 7 equivalent, pending outcomes tonight).

u have a better chance of seeing god at the HM BSM opening round game (if Blaine wins tonight) than seeing both northern teams square off in Game 1.. A DE morehead game will for sure not happen, the random draw would never allow that..but I almost guarantee BSM vs HM first round

I would definitely say they were a lot better than 'good' and closer to 'great' this was a team that I believe went 26-2 and their 2nd loss was in the state semifinal in OT to eventual champion DE who was the beneficiary of a crossbar and a post in overtime (Adam Coole had no chance on either shot-sorry Hounds faithful ) but nontheless, went on to the 3rd place game and absolutely dismantled a very solid Roseau sqaud who was comprised primarily of the players who came back the next year in 99 and went through the tourney field unlike any I have seen since. [/b]They were clearly the 2nd best team in the state in 98 and I think if they played east 10 times would have split even 5-5.[/b] Btw, Owatonna got in that year because they scored a huge upset over a Rochester JM team that was pretty 'good' definitely not 'great' Lol.

One of the numbers guys calculated it earlier - 0.39% chance of the 8 seed drawing the 1 seed in both A and AA two years in a row. I think that's where it has started to manifest from.

Everyone's aware of the call, but people have pointed out that there isn't video of the guy pulling names out of the hat so to speak.

I really don't care, but it is BS when the top seed draws the #5 seed. All of the sudden you're better off being the #4 seed - which should never be the case. I know you've got to win 3 games regardless, but everyone gets the point.
