When do the teams get announced and who the coaches are for the All Star game?

The teams should be announced sometime the week before state. The coaches are Lakeville head coach Scott Orrey for the Gold team, and Burnsville assistant coach Brandon Tveitbakk for the Maroon team.

I don't get how basement teams like Champlin and Blaine send more players than Edina, SLP, Jefferson, and other teams with more depth.

What a great event last night, perfect way for the seniors to go out. They all shined last night, the Gold shined a little better with a 6-2 win. The MHL should be proud of the talent that is in this league, there were some outstanding plays last night. With the exception of some of the elite teams, either of these teams could compete solidly against varsity teams.
