Scheduling an outdoor game in the metro will always be risky without artificial ice. A rink on any of the lakes could be a big puddle on a warm February day. Phalen Park has artificial ice outdoors as does North Dale and Palace Playgrounds in St. Paul. Where else are there refrigerated ice systems outdoors in the metro?

St. Paul must have a portable refrigeration sytem that they now use at the Landmark Center - maybe it could be moved to Harriet Island or somewhere for Hockey Day.

Good point!

That water level has dropped considerably lower each season; its messing up the docking system and hurting businesses!

Harriet Island is a good idea - scenic, with decent parking and lots of room. It might take some finagling, but I suppose another option might be at the Oval in Roseville - I don't know if they could throw a set of boards up in the middle of it or not. I would think they could, but it would probably knock the speed skaters out for a week or two.

I have to think that the MSHSL would need assurances from Maynard's that there would be no alcohol served all day in order to hold it in that location. Not so sure they'd go for that.

So what's wrong with having it outside Maynard's? the new Vadnais Sports Center has a bar on site. Sure, the indoor link is closed for high school games, but it's still just a few steps away.

Apparently, the link is open for non-high school games. Like squirt tournaments. Guess it's OK to get liquored up then.

I was thinking the same thing. You could have a game between Ramsey and Kellogg.

I would doubt it. It would be the equivalent of telling the Eagle Street Grille or McGovern's to stop selling liquor because there is a high school hockey game going on across the street. Students aren't banned from entering any of these establishments, nor would they be banned from entering Maynards. The stipulation would be that Maynards can't set up an outside bar next to the hockey rink, or sell "roadies", whereby people can take their beverages with them to the stands for the games.
