while I agree that it was a goal, you neglected to indicate that the closest official to the empty goal was initially waving it off as it was somehow boucning back out of the net. That appeared to be why GR kept playing. Not sure how anyone would have heard the whistle in that chaos.

Hibbing definately deserved to win tonight. Jamnick and Decenzo controlled the puck all night, slicing through the D like a hot knife through butta . GR took some inopportune penalties, and it wasn't Underwood's best game either. Oh well, aren't the Raiders of Greenway coming to town soon???

I have seen pretty much all of Underwoods games and this was by far the worst for him, he was having a really off day, at least it seemed like to my eyes...(and not a game to judge how good he is) So i think rapids made a mistake by not letting Tabaka play because this would have been his game to prove to everyone that hes still there.

Hats off to Hibbing, or should I say Aaron Jamnick. He was by far the best player on the ice. GR was pathetic tonight, no hop in the step, no...well, no anything. Underwood struggled greatly tonight, fighting each save. The forwards were out of sync, and just not clicking. The defense...well, never mind.

As for the end of the game, I've never seen such a bizarre thing. Jamnick takes an errant pass from a Rapids defenseman in front of the open net, shoots and scores. Or did he? Couldn't tell from my angle from behind the GR bench, but the puck came out from exactly the angle it was shot in, with no whistle, no goal light, and a ref waving no goal. Hibbing's celebrating, GR's moping, and Kosak skates the length of the ice shooting at a goalie who doesn't seem to care. 3-3 right? No, after a brief discussion with the goal judge, and then a longer chat with Coach LaRoque, decides that it was a goal after all. Very, very strange. GR in no way deserved a victory there, as Hibbing was the better team all night long. Congratulations to the Jackets and good luck vs Cloquet.

i will agree that Rapids didnt play the best tonight, but you cant say that they weren't playing a heck of a lot better in the last 5 minutes of the 3rd, it would have been nice to see it tied up 3-3 in OT.

How about the other 46 minutes of the game? They are going to have to start showing up consistently or they won't make it past the quarters.
Sad to see them come down so far after how well they played in Cloquet.

I was listening to this on the Hibbing radio station, and the Hibbing guys were saying from their vantage point, they did not think the Jamnick shot went in the net and were suprised Grand Rapids was not given the tying goal. I wish I would have gotten over there to see this game for myself. I've never heard of an ending like that. Just when you think you've seen it all...

From the sounds of it, though, Hibbing deserved the win and that certainly is a big boost for them as they start the stretch run. Grand Rapids will need to regroup quickly, they have another big section game coming up.

THat was a pitiful hockey game to watch, by far the worst ive seen in years, not knowing Hibbing's style of play it was hard to say what happened, did they do a good job of bottling up Rapids or did Rapids beat themselves. Seems like they beat themselves having 5 shots in two periods doesn't help. As for the end of the game, from my vantage point i couldnt tell if the empty netter went in but no ref said goal, nor did the goal light come on, then the refs followed the play down the ice and GR shots and scores. Craziest set of events ive seen, why they called it a hibbing goal after letting the play go on beats me, but either way GR didnt deserve to win that game, can you say Jekell and Hyde?

From where I was sitting (down in the corner by the net, east side of arena) it looked like a goal to me. Looked like the puck hit the inner part of the pipe and the inner part of the net. If it hit the inner part of the pipe, then it would have crossed the line, so the would be a goal. The ref that waived it off was standing probably at the top of the circles directly in front of the net, so he probably thought it hit off the pipe and bounced out. the ref made a good call after it was all said and done. As far as the shots go, Hibbings defense did a great job of tying up Rapids and shutting them down. Hibbings line of Olds, Erickson, and Dye did a good job of shutting down Rapids 1st line. Big win for Hibbing.

haven't been to a game in hibbing for years, are they still drawing good crowds for the rivalry games like last night?

anyone on this team besides decenzo have ushl or d1 potential, getting serious looks?

I don't know about getting serious looks, but Jamnick is playing some serious hockey.

I thought Tok retired his whistle and gave it to the Hall of Fame. Then again it has been used an awfull lot.

I was tired of sitting around the house so I decide to go watch Rapids play Hibbing. From all the hype I have read on this forum I thought Rapids was a far better team and would walk away with it. Boy was this forum wrong. I enjoyed one of the best games I have seen in years. Hibbing beat Rapids in all facets of the game. The Rapids fans and players must have walked out of that arena with their heads spinning. Congratulations to Hibbing for three periods of pure hustle.

I wouldn't say the forum is wrong. Rapids is a far better team than what they showed last night. If you enjoyed that game, you need to get out more often. That was one of the worst hockey games in recent memory. I will agree with you that Hibbing thumped GR up and down the ice all night though, and also will join you in congratulating them for three periods of hustle as well.

This game seemed like it went on forever after the 2-1 lead that hibbing got over rapids... it looked like rapids was going to outplay hibbing when the game started, but thats not at all what happened. and for all the whistles blown, a few were undeserving from where i was sitting.

well if anyone thinks that the goal in the end didnt go in you are wrong for one the goal judge turned his light on and saw the ref wave it off so he turned the light off and second one of the photographers thats stands by that net has a picture of the puck inside the net.

That's a lie. If you saw a goal light come on, you're the only one. And for arguments sake, if he did turn on the light, but as you say saw the ref wave it off so he turned off the light, then he's not doing his job as a goal judge. As for the picture, I'd like to see it posted so there's no more debate. Hibbing won, we all know they deserved to win, don't debate over things that don't really matter.
