I would say that Gus Hendrickson, Jim Nelson, and Lynn Ellingson were pretty respectable.

Sarsland. 500+ wins. State title. Many kids go on to play college or junior hockey from Elk River's program.

Hockey East:

Thanks for putting Housley up there :D He is a great coach that is turning around a program that has a lot of numbers but no state appearances as of yet!! It is a hard pill to swallow knowing how many kids they have in the association and they cant get to state. Since his arrival they have one of the hardest schedules year in and year out and have steadily improved in the standings. This year is no different with the schedule and hopefully they improve on the 500 season they had last year. He will be a head coach in the NHL someday and hopefully before he leaves he is able to put this program on the map and put the people in place to ensure that it does go backwards!!!!

I thought somebody said that Ward bailed already. If that's true, I would view him as winless and probably not one of the state's best!

Ward probably would have been up there this year but bailed to go to the Aeros because he lost his college commentating job. He knew how to motivate and utilize his players best abilities. And we did lose one game (not regular season lol) to Duluth Marshall 4-3, but yea he did a great job when he had us for a whole two months :)

Not many people will agree, but Craig Norwich has done more with nothing at SPA then anyone else could. He took a program that had 8 players out for hockey, and turned that number to nearly 50 in only two years. Also he turned Shattuck from a program similar to SPA's into a national power house. He just can't get the talent into SPA.

Yeah right. How many times to state? a couple of state championships too i think. East always is a contender for one reason, randolph. Personally, i thought that he had some weak teams in the past few years but always were a contender in any game.

Surely this was said with tongue in cheek. One would think after 5 years out of the league he would be at a higher level than high school. Great players don't necessarily make great coaches. He has helped in putting a large stain on the SAHA A Bantam program. I'd like to think that for someone to be considered great, they would have to have accomplished something great. He did as a player. He has not as a coach.

I'm hoping for Stillwater to get to the Tournament just so I won't have to listen to his commentary on tv.

The odds are slim to none of that happening. You might just want to watch with the sound off

Granted his team (WBL) is always good...coach Tim Sager always does a good job of making a good team better...even though they havent won a state title...he takes them to state just as much as any coach and the state title will be soon to come!!!

id have to say....

I would have to say Russ Welch is the best. He is coaching a small school in hastings and has done a wonderful job. This is his turnaround season after a rough one last year.

If you're looking at coaching tandoms I would say Jimmy O'Neil, Charlie Basco, and Rancone from Cretin- Derham Hall. They were able to pull a team from a new harder confrence and make them into a hockey power in one year now they have a mini dynasty going. Best recruiter I would have to say is Vanilli even though my personal opinion of him isn't great. On Phil Hously he is a great player but only a good coach I wouldn't put him among the elite.
